On Sunday, India outplayed Pakistan by four wickets in its T20 World Cup 2022 opener at Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Indian bowlers started off well and then stopped Pakistan on 159 runs in 20 overs.  Chasing the total, Virat Kohli’s heroics with the bat helped India win the game against Pakistan. He scored an unbeaten 82 not out off 53 balls.

The former legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar could not control his emotions after India outclassed Australia. He was standing on the boundary rope and started jumping when Ashwin hit the winning run.

Gavaskar told on Star Sports, “Happiness is always there whenever India win a game, but the happiness is, even more, when they win a game against Pakistan. Last year, we faced a disappointing loss to Pakistan”.

In Sunday’s match, India required 28 runs off the last 8 balls and then Kohli thrashed Haris Rauf for two back-to-back sixes. According to Gavaskar, these two maximums were a turning point.

"Had the 12 runs not been made in the last two balls, it would not have been really tough for us (India) to score 20-25 runs in the last over. The 12 runs made the difference," said Gavaskar.

Virat Kohli also stated, “I have no words, no idea how that happened. I am really lost for words. Hardik believed we can do it, if we stayed till the end”.

India will be next playing against the Netherlands on Thursday at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
