New Delhi: To see an Indian limited overs outfit without the leadership of Dhoni was not only new for the fans but it was also an entirely new experience for Dhoni and Virat themselves. The former and the newly appointed captain swapped roles on numerous occasions to foster better results. But during the third and final ODI against England at Kolkata the understanding of the duo was not at its peak.
MS Dhoni has been clinical in his calls for DRS (Decision Review System) in this series. Whether it was in the first ODI, when Dhoni opted for review without asking Virat or straight away signaling for DRS to save Yuvraj’s wicket in the 2nd ODI, Dhoni has been bang on with his decisions.
The Indian captain Virat Kohli may have just overlooked these factors as he went for a review without consulting Dhoni, while the later was clearly against it.
The incident occurred in the 29th over of the England innings when a Jasprit Bumrah delivery went passed the outside edge of Eoin Morgan. Bumrah went up in appeal along with Dhoni and Kohli behind the stumps. Umpire Kumar Dharmasena shook his head and Kohli immediately made the ‘T’ signal to refer it to the third umpire. Interestingly, Dhoni was seen shaking his head but the damage had already been done.
Replays made it clear that there was no outside edge, Morgan survived and India lost their review.
