T20 World Cup 2024-winning captain Rohit Sharma will continue to lead the Indian cricket team in ODIs and Tests. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah confirmed in a video message that the veteran opener will captain India in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 and the World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2025.

A few months ago, during an event in Rajkot, before the T20 World Cup 2024, Jay Shah predicted that India would win the T20 World Cup title under Rohit Sharma.

Continuing this trend, Shah has now made two more predictions: that India will win the upcoming ICC trophies—the World Test Championship and the Champions Trophy—under Rohit's leadership.

The T20 World Cup title is India's first ICC trophy after an 11-year drought. The team reached the finals of ICC tournaments three times in the last 12 months, losing two of them.

Jay Shah said in a video message, "Many congratulations to Team India for this historic victory. I want to dedicate this victory to coach Rahul Dravid, captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja. This was our third final in the last year. In June 2023, we lost in the final of the World Test Championship. After ten wins in November 2023, we won hearts but couldn't win the cup."

The BCCI secretary added: "I had said in Rajkot that in June 2024, we will win hearts, win the cup, and hoist the flag of India, and our captain did just that. The last five overs had a huge contribution to this victory. I want to thank Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya for their contributions. After this victory, the next stage is the WTC final and the Champions Trophy. I am confident that we will become champions in both these tournaments under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma."

Pakistan will be hosting the Champions Trophy 2025 in February-March, next year.
