Virat Kohli may have been ruled out of the County Championship but other India Test regulars are sweating it out in the Royal London One-Day Cup, Ishant Sharma being one of the most prominent ones.
After a successful stint in the four-day tournament, Ishant has finally found his rhythm with the white ball. The lanky fast bowler returned with two wickets against Glamorgan but failed to inspire his side Sussex to a victory as the Sharks slumped to a six-wicket defeat.
Ishant was the most impressive bowler for Sussex, picking up two wickets with the ball. He got his first wicket with an absolute jaffer to young Nicholas Selman, who could not do anything against a delivery that pitched on middle and hit the top of off.
Ishant came back in his second spell to remove a well-settled Brown for 34. That wicket brought Sussex right back into the match, with Galmorgan still needing 172 runs with seven wickets in hand. However, two back-to-back solid partnerships engineered by captain Colin Ingram (95*) ended the hopes for a Sussex victory. Chasing a target of 278, Glamorgan reached home in 48.2 overs.
With just two wins in seven matches, Ishant’s side Sussesx, is languishing at the seventh position in the South Group and have a very slim chance of making it to the next round.
Ishant, for his part, will leave Sussex and return home to join the Indian side ahead of the historic one-off Test match against Afghanistan in Bengaluru, starting from June 14.
