Southern Super Stars beat Konark Suryas Odisha in Qualifier 1 of the Legends League Cricket (LLC) 2024 at the Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar on Saturday (October 12) to reach the final of the tournament. The winning team did most things right after winning the toss and opting to bowl first. They first reduced Konark Suryas Odisha to 8/4 and then 53/5 before it needed a special effort from captain Irfan Pathan to help his team recover.


Pathan's effort meant that Konark Suryas Odisha managed to put on a competitive total of 148/8. However, the total proved to be insufficient as Southern Super Stars chased down the total in 17.2 overs. Hamilton Masakadza's 67 off 49 and Pawan Negi's 40 off 20 made easy work of the chase with the eventual winners only losing 3 wickets.

Irfan Pathan's Innings In Vain


The result meant that it was not to be for Irfan Pathan-led side on the day despite his superb effort with the bat. The southpaw smashed 62 off 47 and led his team's revival who were in danger of a flop show in the Playoff fixture. However, his innings which included 6 fours and 3 sixes. He had his elder brother who gave him good company in the middle with Yusuf Pathan chipping in with 43 off 21. Irfan, however, could not chip in with a wicket as his team lost.

However, despite the defeat, Konark Suryas Odisha will get another chance to reach the final with them set to meet the team that wins the Eliminator in which India Capitals will face Toyam Hyderabad. As far as the winning team is concerned, they have sealed a place in the final of the tournament and have as much as their bowling to credit with the likes of Hamid Hassan, Abdur Razzak, Suboth Bhati and captain Kedar Jadav picking 2 wickets apiece as their batting with Masakadza getting the Player Of The Match recognition.
