MS Dhoni in IPL 2025: Mahendra Singh Dhoni stands as one of the most successful captains in Indian Premier League (IPL) history, winning five titles as captain. His passionate fans remain devoted to 'Thala.' After years at the helm, Dhoni passed captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad during 2024 IPL season. As excitement grows, the uncertainty surrounding Dhoni's potential participation in IPL 2025 continues.
In addition to Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) might retain likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Madheesha Pathirana in IPL 2025 mega auction.

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan informed Times of India (TOI) that no decision has been made regarding Mahendra Singh Dhoni's status as an uncapped player in IPL 2025. He stated that it will ultimately be up to Dhoni to decide if he wants to continue playing.
In an interview with TOI, Kasi Viswanathan said, "We are not sure at this stage. We might not even use it for MS Dhoni. It’s still too early to comment on this because we haven’t had discussions with him. Dhoni was in the US and we haven’t had discussions yet. Now I am travelling this week, so there is a possibility of some discussions in the coming week. So there could be some clarity then. We are hopeful of him playing but it’s a call Dhoni will himself make."
The IPL retention rules have undergone a major change, allowing any player who hasn't played in an international match for the last five years to qualify as an uncapped player. This could potentially benefit Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Following implementation of new retention rules, discussions about Dhoni playing as an uncapped player are gaining momentum. Since Dhoni's last international appearance was in 2019, he qualifies to be retained as an uncapped player by CSK.
