New Delhi: Basking in the glory of a successful run of Rashid Khan and Mohammed Nabi in IPL, Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has decided to bring in its very own T20 league. ACB is all set to launch its T20 league in Kabul from July 18-28 according to the Hindu.
Molded in IPL style, the Shpageeza League will have six franchises, owned by noted industrialists fighting for the title.
The Shpageeza League has already managed to rope in international stars from Bangladesh and Pakistan. Nine players from Bangladesh including Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Sabbir Rahman, Mehdi Hasan will play in the inaugural edition. While Pakistan cricketers Sohail Tanveer, Kamran Akmal and Babar Azam will also be a part of the players’ auction on May 25.
“We have already received great response from the cricketers.
“This is the first time that so many international cricketers will be playing in this franchise-based league,” said ACB CEO Shafiq Stanikzai.
Afghanistan cricket received a major boost when two of their players Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi were picked up in the IPL auctions by Sunrisers Hyderabad. Nabi did not get many opportunities to play but Rashid Khan was one of the main weapons in Sunrisers’ campaign.
