Virat Kohli records: In the recently-concluded four-match India vs Australia Test series, which India won 2-1, former India skipper Virat Kohli scored a hundred on Day 4 of IND vs AUS Ahmedabad Test. This was his first ton in Test cricket after a 40-month-long gap.
As Virat notched up his 75th ton in Tests, he breached a big milestone owned by legend Sachin Tendulkar. Virat became the fastest batter in international cricket to score 75 tons across formats -- a record which was previously owned by Sachin Tendulkar. It took 566 innings for Sachin to score his 75th century in international cricket. Kohli scored his career's 75th international ton in his 552nd innings for India and is now 25 tons away from equaling Sachin Tendulkar's record of scoring 100 tons in international cricket.
When team India's former head coach Ravi Shastri, in an exclusive conversation with SportsYaari, was asked whether Kohli would break Sachin's most iconic record in international cricket, he said that it would be a "big thing" if Virat gets there.
“How many players have scored 100 hundreds? Just one. So if you are saying that he can cross that mark, it's a big thing. He still has a lot of cricket left in him. He is very fit. And when a player of that class starts scoring centuries then it follows one after the other. Probably in a stretch of 15 matches, there will be seven hundreds. Kohli can still easily play cricket for 5-6 years because he is fit. But it is not easy by any stretch of imagination that is why only one guy has done it. But the fact that you are telling me he might reach there is a big thing,” said Shastri on Sports Yaari.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) legend Virat Kohli will next be seen in action in the Indian Premier League, starting March 31.
