SRH New Captain: The Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday declared South African batsman Aiden Markram as their skipper for the season. Kaviya Maran-owned team announced Markram’s name on Twitter saying,” THE. WAIT. IS. OVER. #OrangeArmy, say hello to our new captain Aiden Markram.”
There were talks going around that Markram or former Punjab Kings skipper Mayank Agarwal could be picked as the new skipper. Under the leadership of Markram, Sun Group-owned Sunrisers Eastern Cape won the inaugural SA20 title. He amassed 336 runs and also scalped 11 wickets in the tournament. The Proteas batter also had a great IPL last season where he made 381 runs at an average of 47.63.
The team had parted ways with their captain Kane Williamson last season who will now play for Gujarat Titans. For the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their opening fixture on April 2 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
