Delhi Capitals edged Kings Eleven Punjab in a Super Over to win their opening encounter in season 13 of the Indian Premier League on September 21. The DC vs KXIP game also marked the debut of premier off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for Delhi Capitals after being traded by his former side Kings Eleven Punjab ahead of the IPL auction.


Ashwin sustained a freak injury while diving to stop a single in his very first over. The offie landed awkwardly on his left arm and looked in a lot of pain. After the incident, Ashwin was seen leaving the field along with Capitals' physio Patrick Farhatand.

Giving an update on R Ashwin's injury, DC captain skipper Iyer said that the experienced spinner is likely to be available for the next game. "Credit to Ashwin, he almost changed the game in that over. It is up to the physio but Ashwin said he is available for the next game," Iyer was quoted as saying.

Before going off the field due to the injury, Ashwin made an impact immediately in the game against KXIP after DC skipper Shreyas Iyer handed the ball to him. He dismissed Karun Nair off his very first delivery as Nair top edged him to only hold up a catch to Prithvi Shaw. The Tamil Nadu spinner struck a double blow when he bowled Nicholas Pooran through the gate

The former KXIP skipper was later seen in the DC dressing room with a sling on his left hand and an ice-pack covering his shoulder. Delhi Capitals eventually registered a thrilling win Super Over win over KXIP after a low-scoring ended in a tie with Mayank Agarwal's whirlwind's half ton .
