2-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) suffered a major blow to their fortunes in the ongoing 13th edition of the IPL in United Arab Emirates as their US fast bowler Ali Khan sustained an injury. However, the seamer has not been yet been ruled out from the tournament as he is undergoing a rehabilitation at the franchise's camp, states a report in  ESPNCricinfo.

The Shah Rukh Khan owned KKR franchise had roped in Ali Khan as a replacement for English pacer Harry Gurney, who had to pull out of IPL 13 to undergo a shoulder surgery before the start of the tournament.

The update by ESPNCricinfo on the injury to the KKR seamer is contrary to the press release released by IPL on the subject.

Earlier on Wednesday, an official IPL statement on the injury to seamer Ali Khan implied that he has been ruled out of the tournament,

"...Kolkata Knight Riders signed up Ali Khan as a replacement for injured Harry Gurney. Khan became the first USA cricketer to be signed up by an IPL franchise. Unfortunately, Khan has since been injured and will miss the rest of the IPL 2020 season," an official IPL statement read.

Khan, who had the honour of becoming the first player from the US to join an IPL franchise, has not managed to find a place in the playing XI in the four matches that KKR has played uptill now in the tournament.

The right-arm seamer had come into the IPL on the back of a good season at the 2020 Caribbean Premier League with champions Trinbago Knight Riders -- the CPL franchise with the same parent company as KKR --

Khan was an integral part of the Trinbago Knight Riders title winning campaign, took eight wickets in 12 matches to seal the fourth title for TKR in the CPL.

The Dinesh Karthik-led side, with four points in their kitty, is currently placed at the fourth position in the points table and are scheduled to take Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday evening at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.
