The Indian Premier League (IPL) is thirteen years old and the T20 carnival is being staged for only the second time in the United Arab Emirates amidst the Covid-19 pandemic threat very much existent.

Amidst, the new norm bio-secure in the Covid-19 era, many things have changed in the manner the high profile T20 league is being played since its inception way back in 2008.

However, one aspect which still remains pretty much the same is the colour of the jerseys the eight teams don while competing hard against each other to vie for the ultimate honour every season - the IPL title.

With every passing season, the franchises bring about subtle changes in their team jersey to give a new feel and look to their playing attires. However, the underlying shades of blue and red to the team jerseys remain very much the same and have kind of struct a connect with the die-hard fans of the franchises.

A fascinating feature of the Indian Premier League are the team jerseys of the franchises which bear a strong association with the die-hard fans, who stand rock solid behind their teams and cricketing superstars, celebrating every moment of their glittering success.

The eight teams in the Indian Premier League don different coloured jerseys to have a distinct identity of their own while competing against each other on the green turf. Much like international cricket, blue seems to be the preferred hue or shade of the uniforms for the franchises competing in the IPL.

Blue Is The Outright Favourite And Most Sought After Jersey Colour Among The Eight Franchises

Three out of the eight franchises have blue as the colour in their playing uniforms. While Mumbai Indians don a predominantly blue jersey with golden stripes, Delhi Capitals also take to the green turf wearing blue. However, the shade of blue donned by the Capitals is a bit lighter and brighter than the Mumbai Indians.

Delhi Capitals have streaks of red and white which differentiates them on the field from the Blue-Gold Mumbai Indians. When these two sides lock horns, there is a sea of Blue in the stands at either at the Arun Jaitley Stadium (erstwhile Feroz Shah Kotla) in New Delhi or the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Rajasthan Royals does have splashes of blue to blend well with their Pink coloured playing jersey, which has rightfully given them the name 'Pink Army'. The Pink does remind the 'Halla Bol' Brigade of the 'Pink City' Jaipur from where the franchise is based out.

If Blue gives a sporty and soothing look to the 'Mumbai Paltans', Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals, then the Kolkata Knight Riders uniform has a bit off a darker hue with the Purple jersey.

Fondly known as the 'Purple Brigade' by the 'Korbo Lorbo Jeetbo Re' fan club, KKR's purple jersey gives the Knights a sense of regalia and pomp courtesy their jersey colour which is associated with royalties'

KKR does add a bit of more to panache to their purple jersey with the golden stripes which outline the sleeves and sides of their uniform.

RCB and KXIP Have Red As Their Dominant Hue In Playing Jersies

Red comes in as the next most favoured jersey colour with Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings Eleven Punjab having a red hue in their IPL jerseys ..Known to be a colour which symbolizes competitiveness and challenge; the hues of red are a bit different for RCB and KXIP.

While Kohli and his 'Royals Challengers' don a more shimmering shade of red with elements of black in their jersey; the 'Kings' from Punjab have a sober whitish-grey to compliment the more appealing red shade in their playing uniform. RCB are known to be the 'Red and Black' brigade among the cricketing diaspora of the IPL.

CSK's Yellow And SRH's Orange Does Offer A Striking Contrast To The Blues and Reds

The yellow jersey of Chennai Super Kings is a striking contrast to the usual blues and reds donned by majority of the teams and breaks away from the usual norm. The highly successful and immensely popular CSK franchise is synonymous with their all-yellow jersey they wear while competing in the IPL. The streaks of gold do add that bit of sheen to CSK's bright yellow jersey.

Fondly knock as the 'Yellow Army', the 'Whistle Podu' fans cheer on Dhoni-led 'Men in Yellow' loud in all their glittering highs they have achieved in the IPL.

Last but not the least, there is a bit of a Dutch element to the Indian Premier League with a sparking Orange being the color of the Sunrisers Hyderabad jersey.

The sparkling orange in the SRH jersey is an ideal testament of the rising sun which also forms the very core of the Hyderabad-based franchise's logo. SRH do an ideal mix and match with the contrasting black lowers to the more glittering orange shirts.
