CSK's all conquering over KXIP win came on the back of a record 181-run opening stand between their openers Shane Watson and Faf Du Plessis.
The CSK openers cantered their team home against KXIP by pulling off a 179-run chase by registering the franchise's highest even opening partnership in the IPL. Watson (83* off 53) and Du Plessis (87 off 53) scored unbeaten half centuries in their 181-run opening stand, which happened to be not only the highest opening partnership but the also the highest ever stand for any wicket by CSK in the IPL.

The Watson-Du Plessis duo broke the record for the previous best opening stand off 159 runs for the first wicket between Murali Vijay and Michael Hussey. The third highest partnership for CSK in the IPL was registered between Murali Vijay and Albie Morkel (152 for third wicket)
