Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni achieved a couple of personal milestones in the IPL even as his team lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven run in IPL 2020 encounter played Dubai on Friday (Oct 2).

When Dhoni walked onto the green turf for the toss against SRH, he became the most capped player in the history of the league with a record breaking 194 appearances, going past his own team mate Suresh Raina.

In his record 194th appearance, Dhoni went onto scale the 4500-run milestone in IPL, becoming only the seventh cricketer in the history of the league to achieve the feat. The 3-time IPL winning CSK skipper joined a select band of cricketers like Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina and Shikhar Dhawan in the 4500-run scoring club.

It is notable that only three players in the history of the IPL have scored 5000 runs or more.RCB skipper Virat Kohli leads the run scoring charts with 5430 runs, followed by Suresh Raina who occupies the second spot with 5368 runs. Rohit Sharma became the third player to scale 5000 runs in the IPL during team's win over Kings Eleven Punjab a few days back.

With 4500+ IPL runs, SRH skipper David Warner (4748* IPL runs) and DC's top order batsman Shikhar Dhawan (4614* IPL runs) are now approaching the 5000-run club to join the top three run scorers in an elite league.

MS Dhoni has played 164 matches for CSK and the rest for Rising Pune Supergiants and Rising Pune Supergiant when his real franchise was banned from the league for two years.

In the context of the CSK vs SRH game, Dhoni staged a valiant fightback towards the fag end of his team's innings by scoring an unbeaten 47-run knock off just 36 deliveries but it was not good enough to take the 3-time champs across the victory line over Sunriders Hyderabad
