After BCCI's request, the pitch rating for Holkar Stadium at Indore has been changed by the ICC. Indore's stadium was used to conduct a third Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia. The wicket of the third Test was earlier rated as poor and ICC also gave it three demerit points.
However, after the Board of Control for Cricket in India's request, ICC changed the rating from 'poor' to 'below average'.
The ICC appeal panel including Wasim Khan who is the ICC General Manager and Roger Harper who is the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee Member assessed the footage of the third Test. After evaluation, both came up with the opinion that there was not enough variable bounce to rate Indore's pitch as poor. They also decided to change the rating to below average and reduce the demerit point to just one instead of three.
The wicket was used to organize the third Test where there was a lot of help to the spinners as 14 wickets fell on the first day of the game. Out of the 31 wickets, spinners scalped 26 of them. The Test match was concluded in just two days and Australia ended up winning the match to seal their place in the ICC World Test Championship Final.
The Indian team also went on to qualify for the WTC final after New Zealand outplayed Sri Lanka in the first Test in Christchurch.
