The Caribbean guests may have planned to overcome the loss they faced in Guwahati. But Indian skipper Virat Kohli set a plethora of records which left no stones unturned to humiliate West Indies in Vishakhapatnam as well. Becoming the fastest batsman in the world to get 10,000 runs in ODI cricket, Kohli scored an unbeaten 157 which helped India amassing 321 runs on the board in the first innings, at a cost of 6 wickets.

West Indies need 322 runs to win the 2nd ODI.

Earlier today, India won the toss and unlike the 1st ODI, they decided to bat first. The opening duo of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan once again failed to provide a solid start to the team. In the 4th over, India lost its first wicket in the form of Rohit who fell prey to Kemar Roach after scoring just 4 runs.

A few overs later, Shikhar Dhawan was given LBW off Ashley Nurse’s delivery. He had to return to dressing after scoring just 29 off 30 balls. India lost both their openers within 10 overs and India were reduced to 40/2 when Rayudu came to bat. Once again the responsibility of scoring runs came on the shoulders of Virat Kohli who thereafter scripted history.

Kohli and Rayudu produced a fine batting performance and anchored the innings patiently. Both of them completed their respective half-centuries. The duo stitched a massive 139-run partnership for the 3rd wicket before Ashley Nurse found his 2nd prey.

Rayudu, who was inching towards his 3rd ODI ton, was left bamboozled as Nurse rattled the wickets and bowled him out. He ended up scoring 73 off 80 balls.

Next was MS Dhoni who came into bat at number 5.

Meanwhile, Kohli surpassed batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar to become the fastest batsman to amass 10,000 runs in One-day Internationals (ODI). Kohli reached the milestone in his 205th ODI innings, 54 innings quicker than Tendulkar. The 29-year-old is the fifth Indian batsman and 13th overall to achieve the landmark.

The wicket kept on falling at the other end as MS Dhoni (20) lost his wicket in the 41st over followed by Rishabh Pant (17) in the 44th, but Kohli didn’t stop scoring runs.

The Indian captain brought up his 37th ODI ton and soon became the second batsman after Jonny Bairstow to complete 1000 runs in 2018.

Ravindra Jadeja was the last man to depart. He was removed by in the penultimate over off Obed McCoy’s delivery after scoring 13 off 14 deliveries.

Brief Scores:

India 321/6 (Virat Kohli 157 not out, Ambati Rayudu 73, Shikhar Dhawan 29; Ashley Nurse 2/46, Obed McCoy 2/71) vs West Indies.
