IND vs PAK HIGHLIGHTS: India Thump Pakistan By 7 Wickets In Ahmedabad To Go 8-0 Over Arch-Rivals In ODI World Cups
India vs Pakistan HIGHLIGHTS: India hardly put a foot wrong and remained composed even during the Rizwan-Babar partnership, the only phase of the match during which Pakistan looked assertive.
Let that sink in. IND vs PAK's done and dusted. Will we have round 2 in this World Cup? There is a probability if both these teams can reach the knock out stage but nothing is guaranteed as yet. What we do know for now is that India have started this World Cup with a hat-trick of wins that have helped them get to the top of the points table. But all of that is temporary as Rohit Sharma himself said that it is a long tournament and anything can happen. Pakistan shouldn't press the panic button either and instead just go back to the drawing board, see where they went wrong and come back improved in the matches to come. From all of us here at ABP LIVE, thank you and good night. We hope you enjoyed our coverage as much as we did trying to bring in live updates for all of you.
So a 53 not out from Shreayas Iyer to finish things off for India who hit the winning runs off Nawaz, a boundary down the ground after Rohit Sharma's blistering 86 off 63 which had set the tone for the run chase meant India win the match with 117 balls remaining to go top of the table. The win was, however, set by the Indian bowling performance and it is fitting that Bumrah gets the Player Of The Match for his 2/19. Mohammed Siraj (2/50), Hardik Pandya (2/34), Kuldeep Yadav (2/35) and Ravindra Jadeja (2/38) were all impressive especially after the manner in which they kept their calm despite Pakistan being 155/2 at one stage. India now have three wins in a row and their net run rate better than New Zealand who also have six points from three matches.
IND WIN BY 7 Wickets. Boundary from Iyer who gets to a half-century with that shot as India complete a comprehensive win.
END OF OVER 30. IND-186/3 after 30. Could be the last over of the match coming up then. Nawaz to bowl.
A boundary of a misfield and a total of six runs coming off that over. IND- 182/3 after 29 overs. Just 10 runs away from a win now India.
Meanwhile, it's Nawaz from the other end.
Meanwhile as Rauf delivered that over, just taking a moment to soak in the occasion. First IND-PAK game on Indian soil since 2016 T20 World Cup and a lot was riding on it as number 1 took on the number 2 ranked side in the world in front of a packed stadium at the Narendra Modi Stadium. But India were clearly the better side. There were plenty of nerves, forget the players, even we at the newsroom were feeling a bit of the pressure. But as the game progessed and India found a way to tighten its grip, we felt a lot at ease too with things falling in place. IND- 176/3 after 28 overs.
2 singles coming off that Nawaz over. IND- 170/3 after 27 overs. They need 22 runs from 23 overs to maintain their winning spree over Pakistan in ODI World Cups.
IND-168/3 after 26 overs.
It will be a massive boost in the net run rate for India. Rauf bowling the 26th over.
Three singles to finish the 25th over. IND- 165/3 after 25 overs. They need 27 runs from 25 overs.
Just 1 run off that Shaheen over. IND-162/3 after 24 overs.
IND- 161/3 after 23 overs. 4 runs from that over. No pressure of the run rate so a walk in the park here for these two Indian batters.
KL Rahul has Joined Iyer in the middle as India inching closer to a win here.
India- 157/3 after 22 overs.
Rohit departs. He falls 14 short of back-to-back hundreds in this World Cup, what would have been a record-extending century. A slower one from the left-arm pacer Shaheen gets the better of Rohit. IND- 156/3 after 21.4 overs.
Shaheen Shah Afridi back for a second spell. The match, however, one would think has slipped away from Pakistan long ago.
A four from Rohit too in that over in which India get 12 runs. IND- 154/2 after 21 overs. They need 38 runs from 29 overs. The Indian skipper needs 15 more to get to the three-figures mark.
Iyer with a six to start the 21str over. Wonder what Rohit and Kohli would be going through. Batters of such class. Kohli still has had tasted a World CUp win. None for Rohit and he looks determined. Might have got out for a duck in the first game but he is approaching his eighth hundred in World Cup cricket after missing the home World Cup in 2011.
Paddle sweep from Rohit for a boundary this time around before he gets a juicy full toss which he sends on to the leg side for a massive six. IND- 142/2 after 20 overs. Rohit- 80* off 57. IND need 50 from 30 overs.
Three singles from the 19th over. Fifty of the partnership comes up as well. IND-129/2 after 19 overs.
SIx from Iyer off Shadab. India racing towards another win over Pakistan in World Cup cricket. It has been some game. Always is, IND vs PAK. Just the build-up, the hype and the atmosphere and as it seems to coming to an early end, a lot of emotions flowing through me and I can only imagine what the players would feel once they get back to the change room. The job though is not done yet neither for the players, nor for us. IND- 126/2 after 18 overs.
Just 2 runs from the 17th over then. IND- 118/2 after 17 overs.
Nawaz From The Other End for Pakistan.
Home Minister Amit Shah amid the dignitaries present for this high-profile clash which India seems to be bossing at the moment. IND-116/2 after 16 overs. They need 76 runs from 34 overs.
Shadab Khan to start the proceedings with the ball for Pakistan post the drinks.
India- 111/2 after 15 overs. The game in India's pocket really now. Shreyas Iyer- 16* off 19, Rohit Sharma- 61* off 42. Shubman Gill- 16, Virat Kohli- 16, the two batters back in the pavilion with Shaheen Shah Afridi and Hasan Ali dismissing them respectively.
And Rohit's far from done. Another short ball from Rauf which has been deposited into the stands from the Indian skipper.
100 up for India. END OF OVER 14. IND- 101/2. Rohit Sharma- 52* off 39, Shreyas Iyer- 15* off 16.
Rohit Sharma gets to a fine half-century with a single off Shadab Khan. Gets there off 36 balls.
8 runs off the over with the help of a boundary from Iyer. IND-96/2 after 13 overs.
Rauf continues.
India- 88/2. Rohit Sharma- 47*, Shreyas Iyer- 7*.
A short ball from Hasan Ali but Shreyas Iyer gets into a position very swiftly and pulls it away for a boundary.
Just 2 runs off the 11th over. A single each from the bat of Rohit and Iyer the latter of which got that off the last ball to retain the strike. IND- 81/2 after 11 overs.
Iyer in at 4, starts with a leave. END OF OVER 10. END OF FIRST POWERPLAY. IND- 79/2.
Virat Kohli departs. He falls for 16. Went for a pull but couldn't clear mid-on. Perhaps trying to make the most of the two fielders inside the inner-circle rule at this stage. IND- 79/2 after 9.5 Overs,
Last over of the fielding restrictions. What a show this has been. Rohit has been very assertive about wanting to play a certain brand of cricket and it's paying off at this stage.
What an absolute honour this to be bringing in updates for this match. Rohit Sharma is making Haris Rauf look like an ordrinary bowler. There has been a Rohit Sharma pull and Virat Kohli cover drive already and now there is this just this slice from Rohit for the second six in the over. He follows that with a block. IND- 77/1 after 9 overs.
What a shot that from Rohit down the ground from the Hitman. Six no 300 from his bat and India off to rollicking start in this fixture at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Required run rate under 3 now.
He comes dancing down the wicket for a six on the on side. India in commanding position in this run chase. After 8 overs, IND- 63/1.
Mohammad Nawaz Into The Attack. Spin for the first time in this innings.
Four and four from Kohli this time around. First a pull from Kohli before a characteristic cover drive from the great man. 50 up for India already and they end OVER 7 at 54/1.
What a shot from the Hitman! Rohit Sharma pull is out here at the Narendra Modi Stadium and it's come against Shaheen Shah Afridi first ball of the seventh over.
IND- 39/1.
A gorgeous Virat Kohli cover drive to end the over. END OF OVER 5. IND- 38/1 after 5 overs.
Shaheen Shah Afridi to continue.
This time a ball angling into him and plays it towards the on-side for a boundary. Eight runs coming off the fourth over. IND- 31/1 after 4 overs. Just the 2 boundaries the scoring shots in that that over.
Cut for four from Rohit off Hasan Ali. That was wide and punished from the Indian skipper.
Virat Kohli comes it at number 3. Starts with a dot. IND-23/1 after 3 overs.
Bit against the run of play this. Gill was looking good but it was a wide delivery and Gill went for it but couldn't keep it down and played it straight to point where Shadab Khan completed the catch. IND- 23/1 after 2.5 Overs. Shaheen Shah Afridi strikes!
Back-to-back FOURS from Shubman Gill to end the over. One on the off side, one helped on its way to the leg side. IND- 22/0 after 2 overs.
FOUR! India have gotten off to a positive start. Gill with a brilliant shot. Just a punch that breaches the off side field and find the boundary.
Hasan Ali to take the new ball for Pakistan from the other end.
IND- 10/0 after the first over. What a start. No real hint of swing so far which makes the job all the more easier for the Indian batters.
Another boundary. Both batters getting off the mark with a boundary off the first ball. Rohit on the on side, Gill with an elegant drive through the cover and mid-off region.
No messing around. Statement of intent from the Indian captain Rohit Sharma. Shaheen drifting on to Rohit's pads and he flicks it away for a boundary first ball.
India need 192 to win. It's Shaheen Shah Afridi vs Rohit Sharma. Here we go!
What a performance this by Team India. It was a competitive first half to the innings with both teams in it when Pakistan were 155/2 but from then on India were right on top and they bowled out Pakistan for 191 in 42.5 overs. Two wickets apiece for Jasprit Bumrah (2/19), Mohammed Siraj (2/50), Hardik Pandya (2/34), Kuldeep Yadav (2/35) and Ravindra Jadeja (2/38). Pakistan did have their moments in the game, especially the 82-runs stand between Mohammad Rizwan (49 off 69) and Babar Azam (50 off 58) but once Siraj broke that stand, India was all over Pakistan. Abdullah Shafique (20 off 24), Imam-ul-Haq (36 off 38) and Hasan Ali later in the innings (12 off 19) were the only other Pakistan batter who managed a score in double figures. India would be happy with that performance but would still have to survive the new ball spell against Pakistan pacers. They need 192 to win. We will be back with the chase in a short while.
India Review an LBW shout from Jadeja against Rauf. On-field call is not out and there is no bat involved. WICKET! It would have gone on to hit the stumps. PAK- 191/10. Pakistan are bowled out!
Shaheen Shah Afridi with a single to end the 42nd over. He will keep the strike. The odd ball has kept low on the pitch and Pakistan perhaps wanted to aim for a far bigger total than what could have been a par score at this venue which is why they find themselves at this situatinon. PAK- 190/9 after 42 overs.
Hardik Pandya will try and take the only remaining Pakistan wicket now. He has started with three dots to Shaheen Shah Afridi.
PAK- 189/9 after 41 overs.
Rauf in at 11. He has Shaheen Shah Afridi for company. They have a job to do first with the bat, for now, trying to add some runs before they come back with the ball in hand.
Two wickets in two balls for India. Wicket off the last ball of the 40th, wicket of the first ball of the 41st. Jadeja strikes as Hasan Ali trying to go for the slog finds a calm Shubman Gill underneath it. PAK- 187/9 after 40.1 overs.
And Hardik Pandya has another wicket. It's coming to an quickly, this Pakistan innings or it seems like. PAK- 187/8 now as Nawaz trying to clear the in-field, hands a catch to mid-on.
Hardik Pandya has a go now. He did get a wicket earlier in the match but his first four overs also went for 27.
Rapid stuff from Jadeja, as expected. 6 Runs coming off it with a boundary coming off the edge that went past Rohit at first slip. END OF OVER 39. IND- 182/7.
Ravindra Jadeja replaces Kuldeep.
A perfect yorker to finish the 38th over from Bumrah. But no damage done. 2 runs coming off that over. PAK-176/7 after 38 overs.
Bumrah Bowling Third over on The Trot in this spell. Great outing for him so far. But India looking to wrap up the tail quickly now.
After 37 overs, PAK- 174/7.
Kuldeeep Yadav finishes off his quota of 10 overs, giving away 36 runs off his 10 overs and scalping a couple of wickets.
Pakistan- 172/7 after 36 overs. Wow! Perhaps nothing can give as much adrenaline rush as the last few overs of this IND vs PAK World Cup clash. We were all wondering where will India get their next wicket from when Babar and Rizwan were in the middle of that partnership. It seemed like the Men in Green were set for a total in excess of 300. And then Siraj struck and that has opened the doors for India, somehow. Pakistan in danger of being bowled out without playing their 50 overs now.
Shadab Khan departs for 2 off 5. Hasan Ali and Mohammad Nawaz out in the middle for Pakistan at the moment.
Bumrah again and he has bowled Shadab Khan this time around. What a phase of game this for India. He has beaten Shadab with a delivery that has pitched on off and straightened to beat Shadab's defences. PAK- 171/7 after 35.2 Overs.
PAK- 170/6 after 35 overs. Just 2 off that over from Kuldeep.
BOOM BOOM BUMRAH!!! Bumrah is back and he strikes. He removes Rizwan with a slower delivery. Pakistan lose 4 wickets for 13 runs. Rizwan goes back for 49. PAK- 168/6 after 34 overs.
Lovely piece of captaincy this as Jasprit Bumrah is back for a second spell after a two-wicket over from Kuldeep. Rizwan and Shadab Khan out in the middle for Pakistan at the moment.
Two wickets in the same over from Kuldeep. There is a reason he was being picked as India's trump card. And he has delivered. Iftikhar Ahmed is bowled round his legs. Kuleep's on a roll. PAK- 166/5 after 33 overs. What a turnaround this from India.
Kuldeep to Shakeel, Shout for an LBW, given not out. India REVIEW and it's plumb! INDIA GET A WICKET. Shakeel out for 6. PAK-162/4 after 32.2 Overs.
So 5 runs coming off the 32nd over. PAK-162/3 after 32 overs. Saud Shakeel- 6*, Rizwan- 48*.
Perhaps that wicket has tempted Rohit to give another over to Siraj.
PAK-157/3 after 31 overs. And it's DRINKS! Mohammad Rizwan-47* off 63, Saud Shakeel- 2* off 3. Mohammed Siraj And Hardik the wicket-takers for India so far.
Kuldeep against Saud Shakeel now after that 82-run stand ended.
India find a way to stop Babar and perhaps temporarily Pakistan. What a delivery that from Siraj, angling into the right-hander who wanted to play it down the third man but missed it completely and the ball rattled into the top of his off stump. Saud Shakeel the new man in. PAK- 156/3 after 30 overs. Second wicket in the match for Siraj who has been expensive but has produced the breakthroughs.
And against the run of play it is Mohammed Siraj who has gone through the defences of Babar Azam to strike for India. PAK- 155/3. Babar Goes back for 50 off 58.
Cometh The Hour, Cometh The Man! Half-century for Babar Azam in this World Cup clash against India. Gets to the milestone with a boundary. PAK-150/2 after 29 overs.
Kuldeep continues for now. He has not been as effective as India would have liked him to be.
A couple of boundaries coming off that over which went for 13. So plan to bring back pace not working for India. PAK- 144/2 after 28 overs. Babar with a boundary on the on side and Rizwan with a straight drive
It has been some partnership this already worth 60 off 89 balls already and looks nowhere it's done.
It's time for some pace into the attack. Siraj, 1 over 5 for 27, is back as India look to get a wicket here with this partnership getting a solid hold of this match.
End of a great over from Kuldeep who managed to beat the batter on that last delivery but still no luck for India. PAK- 131/2 after 27 overs. Both Babar And Rizwan batting on 37*.
Still no change in bowling so Kuldeep, none for 18 after 4 overs, will continue.
No boundaries but still four coming off that over. PAK- 129/2 after 26 overs.
Jadeja it is who will be continuing. Pakistan should be aiming at 330-340, given the way this pitch looks like and also considering dew which will make it easier for India.
Just 2 singles off that Kuldeep over. And a tight umpire's call decision that went in favour of the batter. PAK- 125/2 after 25 overs.
India review for an LBW call against Babar off the bowling off Kuldeep, given not out by the on-field umpire. Babar missed the sweep there but it's umpire's call and India will retain the review but Babar Azam survives.
Both of India's spinners bowling in tandem at the moment. Wonder where the next breakthrough will come from for India. This looks a batters' paradise in Ahmedabad.
Jadeja has just slipped in another over. 3 singles off it. 50 of the partnership comes up as well off 69 balls. PAK- 123/2 after 24 overs.
Another six-run over. Rizwan with a brilliant shot using the pace of the bowler behind the stumps for a ramp kind of a stroke that went for four. Overall, it went for six runs. PAK- 120/2 after 23 overs.
Kuldeep Yadav continuing from the other end. India need to break this partnership before they begin to take the game away from India if they score a total in excess of 300, it will be tough, no matter the quality India possesses in their batting unit.
Solid partnership this between the two experienced Pakistan batters. Already worth over 40. Back-to-back fours from the bat of Rizwan in that over from Jadeja. One lucky, one skilful but PAK get 9 runs off the over. They are 114/2 after 22 overs.
His first over might have gone for 8. But he is back to bowling it tight. He has conceded just 2 runs in his second. PAK- 105/2 after 21 overs.
Time For Kuldeep Yadav to return into the attack. He has bowled 1 over for 8 so far.
Just a single then to end the 20th over. It was Jadeja who breezed through in that over. PAK- 103/2 after 20 overs. Babar Azam- 30* off 33, Mohammad Rizwan- 16* off 25.
That's 19 overs done and dusted. Shardul Thakur bowled that 19th over. Another over which fetched six runs with the help of a boundary and two singles. Lovely drive from Babar to get that boundary. PAK-102/2 after 19 overs.
Yet again an over which fetched a boundary and two singles. The boundary stroke coming off the bat of Rizwan this time. END OF OVER 18, PAK- 96/2.
Jadeja is bringing on the 18th over.
A boundary and two singles from Shardul's first. After the end of 17 overs, PAK- 90/2.
A boundary straight down the ground from Babar to welcome Shardul. What a shot. It was pitched up and Babar played a fluent drive for a FOUR!
Time for Shardul Thakur to come and bowl.
A tidy over from Jaddu. A quick one too. 5 Singles fom it. After 16 overs , PAK- 84/2.
Jadeja continues from the other end as well. He finishes off overs in a hurry and not the most ideal batter to try and cover ball-by-ball update to. Haha, but we will try here at ABP LIVE.
But Hardik fails to finish it off with a good ball. He erred in his line and Rizwan did not need any second invitation to pounce on to that. FOUR on the on side with a flick. PAK- 79/2 after 15 overs.
Four Dots In A Row from Hardik but these two batters have the experience and shouldn't be tempted to go for the big hit as yet.
Hardik has conceded 24 off his 3 overs so far. But he has been amongs the wickets. He begins proceedings after the drinks break for India.
And there's the first Drinks break! PAK- 75/2 after 14 overs. Babar Azam- 16* off 14, Mohammad Rizwan- 2* off 8. Siraj and Hardik the wicket-takers for India so far. Abdullah Shafique- 20 off 24 and Imam-ul-Haq 36 off 38 the Pakistan batters back in the pavilion.
Huge shout for an LBW which was given out by the on field umpire. But Rizwan chose to review and replays confirmed that the ball was drifting down the leg side.
Ravindra Jadeja into the attack now.
PAK- 74/2 after 13 overs.
Imam-ul-Haq goes after scoring 36 off 38. He is replaced by Rizwan who walks out to bat at number 4.
Second wicket and both the openers back in the pavilion now. It is Hardik Pandya who gets rid of Imam ul Haq with a ball that was leaving the left-hander, enticing him to go for the drive. But the batter manages an edge which is grabbed by the keeper. PAK- 73/2 after 12.3 Overs.
This was also a battle everyone was looking forward to. Babar has faced Kuldeep for 34 balls in which he has scored 18 runs but gotten out 2 times before this match.
This was also a battle everyone was looking forward to. Babar has faced Kuldeep for 34 balls in which he has scored 18 runs but gotten out 2 times before this match.
Yet again it is a boundary to finish off the over. Kuldeep's first and from the bat of Imam who punished the bowler for drifting on to his pads. PAK- 68/1 after 12 overs.
It's spin at the Narendra Modi Stadium For the first time in this IND vs PAK World Cup clash. Kuldeep Yadav introduced into the attack. He will start the 12th over. After 11 overs, PAK- 60/1.
Back-to-back fours from the bat of who else but Babar Azam to end the 11th over. He has gotten off to some start. Batting on 14* off 10.
What a day to be alive and covering cricket, by the way. Some atmoshphere this and a different vibe. The players too were sensing the same, I guess, perhaps much more than all of us, the storytellers.
Thanks to Ashish Satyam for talking you through to the first 10 overs of the match. For the next phase of this game, it will be me, Saurabh Ganguly to try and bring every update from the IND vs PAK World Cup match in Ahmedabad.
Siraj with another impressive over, giving away just 1 run against Babar Azam.
Babar Azam ended Hardik Pandya's over with a boundary towards the fine leg region.
Siraj provided India with its first breakthrough. Siraj bowled a full-length delivery that ended up hitting Shafique's pads.
What a shot by Shafique!! He just stood on Bumrah's bowl and dispatched it straight down the ground for a boundary.
Both the openers of Pakistan have been playing according to the merit of the ball. They are not in a rush, constantly rotating strike with ease.
After conceding two fours, Siraj recorded a good economical over. He has been bowling some tight lengths against Pakistan batters.
That's a good over from Bumrah as he gave away just 1 run.
Imam welcomed Siraj by hitting a boundary. It's a below-average delivery bowled by Siraj and Imam capitalized. He followed it up with another one, two fours off the two balls.
Shafique came up with the first boundary for Pakistan. It was a length delivery bowled by Bumrah and the Pakistani opener flicked it with ease towards the deep mid-wicket region.
Shafique and Imam start the proceedings. Bumrah bowls the first over.
Players have stepped into the field for their respective national anthems.
India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma(c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul(w), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj.
Pakistan (Playing XI): Abdullah Shafique, Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam(c), Mohammad Rizwan(w), Saud Shakeel, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf.
Babar Azam: We also wanted to bowl first. We have had good two wins, momentum and confidence is high. Jam-packed stadium, we will enjoy it. We want to be good in the field, we had a couple of good practice sessions. Same team for us.
Rohit Sharma: We will bowl first, cannot get bigger than this, fantastic atmosphere. Sure lot of us are going to experience something really extraordinary. It's a good track, not going to change much, dew could be a big factor and keeping that in mind, we want to bowl first. We want to keep striving for the best, we want to come out there and give our best in every game. Keeping the atmosphere in the team relaxed is the most important thing in a tournament like this. Gill is back in place of Ishan, unfortunate for Ishan to miss out, feel for him, he stepped up when we needed him. Gill has been a special player for us over the past year or so, especially at this ground and we wanted him back.
India won the toss and opted to bowl first.
Both the teams have reached the stadium and the toss will be happening soon at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
India's opener batter Shubman Gill has scored two international centuries in 5 innings in Ahmedabad. Back during the IPL this year, he collected 572 runs in 9 innings with 2 centuries.
The opening ceremony has already started and stars like Arijit Singh, Shankar Mahadevan, Sunidhi Chauhan, and Sukhwinder Singh are performing.
Pakistan's lethal pacer Haris Rauf said that he will be eyeing the wicket of Virat Kohli.
India's batting pillar Virat Kohli (25,907) needs only 93 runs to reach the feat of 26,000 runs in international cricket.
The Men in Blue has taken part in two matches in the tournament and they are currently standing at the third spot on the points table, while Pakistan have also played two matches and they are ranked fourth on the points table.
Pakistan have not defeated the Indian team in a 50-over World Cup as they are still looking for a win since 1992.
Babar Azam on the other hand only has 168 runs under his belt against India in 7 ODIs.
The former India skipper Virat Kohli has collected 662 runs from 15 ODIs against Pakistan at an average of 55.16
Pakistan is in excellent form, coming off a remarkable six-wicket win against Sri Lanka on October 10 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. In that match, Pakistan chased down a record-breaking total of 345 runs, marking the highest-ever successful chase in ODI World Cup history.
Pakistan has a strong batting lineup against spin, they might prefer Shardul's seam bowling. However, if pitch in Ahmedabad turns out to be spin friendly, Ashwin's inclusion could be an advantage.
With almost zero chances of rain on Saturday, weather is Ahmedabad is extremely favourable for the blockbuster IND vs PAK clash.
