In a Day filled mostly with disappointment for the Indian team, it was heart-wrenching to see the Indian captain walk towards the English captain as he collapsed while taking a single in the dying moments of the Day 1 of the first Test match between India and England. After having a mixed session in the morning, England came back strong and did not lose a single wicket for 64 overs. Much of the credit should be given to the duo of Root and Dominic Sibley. Root has scored a hundred and is playing at 128*, while Sibley got out on the last ball of the Day’s play after scoring a fighting 87 of 286 balls. He played a guiding innings so that Root could score his shots, ex-England captain, Michael Vaughan said that ‘England have found their Pujara in Sibley’. But, a full Day of batting at the Chepauk with hot and humid conditions of Chennai, it is extremely natural to be exhausted at the end of the Day.

Joe Root too had a tiring Day and pulled a muscle while taking a single at the end of first Day’s play. He collapsed on ground, but before any physiotherapist could walk on the ground to help the England captain, Virat Kohli took up the Physio’s role and helped Root recover from the strain. Watch the beautiful gesture by Kohli here:

Day 2 of India vs England is set to begin with Buttler and Stokes the next players to come-in, it looks like a difficult road for India. England’s score at the end of Day 1 was 263/3.
