Things were balanced between India and Australia till lunch, after which Steven Smith joined Travid Head to punish Indian bowlers at every oppurtunity they got, powering Australia to 327/3 at stumps on Day 1. Head remains unbeaten on 146 off just 156 balls, and Smith is just five short from his hundred. India won the toss and invited Australia to bat first.

Background

The Indian team is facing Australia in the high octane in the ICC World Test Championship Final for the 2021-23 cycle at the Oval Stadium in London on Wednesday. Rohit Sharma’s team will be eyeing their first ICC title after a long period of 10 years as they won the 2013 Champions Trophy under the leadership of MS Dhoni.


On the other hand, Australia are coming to play the WTC final for the very first time and will be hoping to add another ICC trophy in their cabinet as they have already sealed  ODI World Cup, T20 World, and Champions Trophy titles earlier. But for India, this will not be the first time as last year also they played the WTC final where they lost the game to New Zealand at Southampton in England by eight wickets under the leadership of Virat Kohli.


Team India will be led by Rohit Sharma who will be eyeing to go past his colleague Ajinkya Rahane and former India skipper Sourav Ganguly’s record of most Test wins by an Indian skipper against Australia.
