India To Face Australia's Prime Minister's XI In Day-Night Practice Match Before Adelaide Test Of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25

India will face Australia's Prime Minister's XI in a two-day warm-up match in Canberra ahead of the India vs Australia test in Adelaide for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

India will face Australia's Prime Minister's XI in a two-day warm-up match at the Manuka Oval in Canberra from November 30 to December 1. This fixture, scheduled ahead of their Adelaide test, aims to prepare India for the Day-Night test, which is the second test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, set to take place at the Adelaide Oval starting December 6.

The Border-Gavaskar Series, now a five-match series instead of four, will kick off with the first test between Australia and India at the Optus Stadium in Perth on November 22. Between the first and second Tests, India will play a two-day pink-ball warm-up match against the Prime Minister's XI in Canberra from November 30 and December 1.

"We’re delighted to confirm India’s involvement in this year’s Prime Minister’s XI match that emphasises the significance of the fixture on the cricketing calendar. The upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy Series will captivate the cricketing world," Cricket Australia Chief Executive Officer Nick Hockley said on August 9 as per Cricket.com.au. 

India Only Have Four Day-Night Tests Under Their Belt

India has played four pink-ball Tests so far, against Bangladesh (2019), Australia (2020), England (2021) and Sri Lanka (2022), winning three of them. They have only participated in an overseas Day-Night Test just once, making the upcoming Adelaide Test their second such match on foreign soil. This warm-up will provide the Indian team with valuable experience in the conditions, helping them prepare for the crucial day-night Test.

India's last and only Day-Night test against Australia at Adelaide Oval was a disaster, as they set a record for their lowest Test score with just 36 runs in their second innings. Despite taking a 53-run lead, Indian batters collapsed against Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, allowing Australia to win easily.

However, this defeat spurred India to a remarkable comeback, including a win in Melbourne, a gritty draw in Sydney, and a thrilling victory at Gabba, led by Rishabh Pant’s brilliant innings.
