After clinching the 2025 Champions Trophy, Indian players will temporarily part ways to compete in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, which kicks off on March 22.


This marks the beginning of a new cycle, with several teams undergoing major transformations after the mega auction. Many star players will be seen in new colors, and leadership changes have been implemented across multiple franchises.


Once the IPL concludes, Team India will regroup for a hectic international schedule leading up to the 2026 T20 World Cup, set to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka in February-March 2026.


Test Cricket: A fresh start in WTC Cycle


India's first major challenge post-IPL will be the five-match Test series against England, which signals the start of the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.


Having missed out on a place in the 2025 WTC final, India will be eager to reestablish its dominance in the format. Also, the team will aim to win the prestigious Pataudi Trophy, a feat they last accomplished in 2007.


This series could also usher in a new leadership era for India in Test cricket, especially after an underwhelming 2024-25 red-ball season.


After Tests, India's primary focus in white-ball cricket will shift to T20Is, given that the 2026 T20 World Cup is the next major ICC tournament. The team will look to defend their title on home soil, making the upcoming Asia Cup and bilateral T20I series crucial for preparation.
