Australia have always been the hardest nut to crack for India while facing them in their own backyard. The entire nation has witnessed the struggle which Indian cricketers go through on the Aussie soil as the 2011 tour remains the best example when we faced a complete whitewash while managed to draw two games out of four in 2014, yet lost the series 2-0.
After a series of failures, Kohli and Co are rising again for a fresh Australian challenge. And ahead of the forthcoming tour, former Indian cricket legend, Sachin Tendulkar is ready to put all his money on the current India team. He believes that the current Australian side lacks the skills and experience some of the legendary teams of the past, but the Virat Kohli led Indian side need to be at the very best in order to win the series.
“We stand a very good chance, so if you see the Australia teams in the past and compare them to this one, yes we have a very good chance. Possibly our best chance to go out there and beat them. I mean playing cricket at the highest level, I don't think it is at the highest level at this stage. I think they have had better sides in the past,” Sachin said.
“They have had better players with more experience, this is considerably an inexperienced side. They are kinda getting back together and forming a solid unit. But Australians are known for being competitive and I won't be surprised if they put up a competitive fight. And to go out there and challenge them is also not going to be easy,” he added.
Sachin also asserted that Kohli's style of captaincy and current superb form with the bat will be an added strength for the Indians.
“I think it is his hunger....his temperament. The ability to assess the situation. Because there is no set formula to that. Every day you are going to have some different challenges and you have got to have that adaptability and flexibility in your mind to go out and assess and he does that rather well. And one good thing is he is hungry forever, that's how a batsman should be,” he said.
India's upcoming tour of Australia is slated to begin from November 21. It's comprised of 3 T20Is followed by a 4-match Test series and a 3-match ODI series. This tour will conclude on January 18.
