New Delhi: India inflicted another humiliating defeat upon Sri Lanka as they won the second Test in Colombo by an innings and 53 runs on Sunday to win three-match series 2-0.
Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja wreaked havoc as he claimed five wickets for 152 to help India seal two consecutive Test series in the island nation.
This is also the 8th successive Test series win under Virat Kohli having started the juggernaut in 2015 in Sri Lanka (away) followed by South Africa (home), West Indies (away), New Zealand (home), England (home), Bangladesh (Home), Australia (home) and now Sri Lanka (away).
Earlier, opener Dimuth Karunaratne showed a lot of grit in company of former skipper Angelo Mathews to hold the fort as he went on the score the 6th century of his Test career. His knock included 16 boundaries and remained undefeated for 6 hours but became a victim of Jadeja’s magic on 141.
The series win against Dinesh Chandimal led side have consolidated India’s position at the top of the ICC Test rankings.
The two teams will face off in the third and the final Test match at Balagolla, which will be nothing but a formal encounter before they take on each other in the limited over series.
