India defeated Bangladesh by 280 runs in the first India vs Bangladesh Test of the series at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on September 22 (Sunday) as they bowled out the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side for 234 runs in the fourth innings. Ravichandran Ashwin was the chief architect of India’s win as after scoring a crucial century in the first innings, he bagged a fifer in the fourth innings to send the Bangladeshi batters back in the hut.


Bangladesh started the fourth day on 158-4 with Najmul Hossain Shanto batting on an 51 and Shakib Al Hasan on five runs. Just when Bangladesh looked like they here heading somewhere, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma introduced R Ashwin and he got India’s first wicket of the day on the fourth ball of the over.

Ashwin, after picking the first wicket of the fourth innings, joined hands with his spin bowling partner Ravindra Jadeja to rattle through the Bangladeshi batting lineup, with Jadeja delivering the final blow by bowling out Hasan Mahmud and eventually bowling the Bangla Tigers out for 234 runs in the fourth innings as India won the match by 280 runs.
