Ravichandran Ashwin record in India vs West Indies 1st Test: Veteran Indian spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin attained a massive milestone against West Indies on Day 1 of IND vs WI Dominica Test, Wednesday (July 12). Ashwin completed 700 international wickets by taking a five-wicket haul for the 33rd time in Test cricket. By virtue of this feat, Ashwin broke England pace bowling legend James Anderson's elite record.

On Day 1 of IND vs WI 1st Test in Dominica, Ashwin bagged 5 wickets for 60 runs in the first innings against the West Indies and bowled 6 maiden overs. This is for the fifth time Ashwin completed a five-wicket haul against West Indies in Test cricket. Overall, Ashwin took a fifer (5 wickets) for the 33rd time in Test cricket, surpassing James Anderson, who has so far taken five wickets 32 times in his inspiring Test career.

Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan holds the record for taking most five-wicket hauls in Test cricket. The legendary off-spinner has taken a fifer 67 times in Tests. Australian legend Shane Warne is at number two in this elite list with 37 five-wicket hauls. Sir Richard Hadlee has taken five wickets 36 times in Test cricket and is at number 3 in this list. At number 4 is India's Anil Kumble (35 fifers). Rangana Herath (34 five-wicket hauls), at number 5, is ahead of Ashwin (33 fifers), who currently stands at number six in the elite list.


Ashwin also holds the record of being the highest Indian wicket-taker against Australia in Tests and is only behind Nathan Lyon (113 wickets) for most wickets in India vs Australia Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Ashwin has so far taken 112 wickets in India vs Australia Tests. Ashwin (7 five-wicket hauls) also has the most fifers by an Indian bowler against Australia in Tests. He has taken 5 wickets six times against England and New Zealand and five times against West Indies and five times against South Africa. Ashwin has taken five wickets three times against Sri Lanka and once against Bangladesh.
