Team India declared their 1st innings right a ball after Ravindra Jadeja got his maiden Test century, 6 years after making his debut for India. Kohli & Co. piled up 649 runs in 149.5 overs which is also India’s highest total against West Indies. Jadeja remained unbeaten on 100 and Shami scored an unbeaten 2 runs.
The West Indies had finally had some respite after the lunch break as their bowlers scalped wickets in regular intervals. They managed to scalp 4 more wickets in the second session but couldn’t stop the run flow at the same time.
The second session of the second day let the Indian tail-enders to have a decent outing with the bat. Skipper Virat Kohli, who scored the 24th century of his Test career, could only score 19 more runs against his name as he lost his wicket in the 124th over to debutant Sherman Lewis.
Kohli ended up scoring 139 off 230 balls including 10 boundaries.
After Kohli’s dismissal, Ravindra Jadeja came with all his guns ablaze. 6 years after making his Test debut, the veteran left-hander scored his first century, that too, on his home ground. People have seen him taking out that sword each time he got a fifty. But it was for the first time that they witnessed something fresh.
Meanwhile, Kuldeep (12), Ashwin (7), Umesh (22) and Shami (2*) contributed in their capabilities.
All the batsmen except KL Rahul scored runs and contributed to the massive total of 649.
From West Indies, Devendra Bishoo picked up a costly 4-fer while debutant Lewis got 2 scalps. Gabriel, Roston Chase and skipper Kraig Brathwaite claimed 1 wicket each.
Earlier in the first session, Kohli and Pant added a massive partnership of 133 runs for the fifth wicket. Kohli got a century while Pant scored the first fifty on the Indian soil.
