Background
IND vs WI, 1st ODI LIVE: After the conclusion of the two-match Test series between India and West Indies, focus will now shift on the three-match ODI series which kicks off on Thursday (July 27) at the Kensington Oval Stadium. There is no doubt that Team India would look to have an eye on the World Cup later at home whenever they take the field up until then especially in the 50-over format. However, against the two-time champions who failed to qualify for the marquee event for the first time, it is likely to be a battle between themselves, an opportunity to try out various combinations with the World Cup set to commence in little over two months time.
While India have a larger purpose and context in which to view this bilateral contest in, no such context is there for the West Indies side who will no World Cup Super League points at stake and even as the 2027 World Cup is far away, from what is being learnt, the top 14 teams could qualify for that competition based on the rankings. Having said that they would want to belive that are far better than their performance in the World Cup qualifiers and a win against a top-side like India would do their confidence a world of good.
The big news from India's camp is that Mohammed Siraj has flown back home after being rested for the ODI series with an aim of handling his workload and in his absence, Jaydev Unadkat could get in a game or Mukesh Kumar could be tried.
