Colombo: Krunal Pandya, India's spin-bowling all-rounder has been tested positive for Covid-19. The second match of the three-match T20 series between India and Sri Lanka that was supposed to be played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo from Tuesday at 8 pm has been postponed. The match has been rescheduled for July 28. The entire Indian team is undergoing RT-PCR tests today to ascertain any further outbreak in the squad.
According to ANI, eight Indian players who were in proximity of Krunal Pandya, are being isolated. Two of them are Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav who are set to join the India team in England for the Test series. If they test positive, they might miss the upcoming England series from August 4.
India had won the first T20I after a good bowling performance. India had registered a 38 run victory in the first T20I. Sri Lanka had to win the match to stay alive in the series. It has been a good outing for coach Rahul Dravid and team, winning three out of the four matches played so far.
BCCI also confirmed the news in a tweet.
Pandya's case in the bio-bubble isn't the first one. Earlier, two members of the Sri Lankan cricket team's support staff, including batting coach Grant Flower, had tested positive for coronavirus. The other person that was affected was the team analyst GT Niroshan. The concerning thing about it is that both of them have been affected by the Delta variant of Covid-19 which is a new 'variant of concern'.
