Shreyas Iyer injury update: Team India's star middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer, yet to recover from a back spasm, isn't part of India's playing XI for IND vs SL Asia Cup 2023 Super Fours match on Monday (September 11) as he has been advised by the BCCI medical team to take rest. Iyer, who is important for team India's ODI World Cup 2023 plans, will miss India's second consecutive game in the ongoing 2023 Asia Cup. He is making his comeback to the national team after a six month's gap, following a back surgery.

Just hours after registering a thumping win over Pakistan on Monday night, Rohit Sharma & Co. are squaring off against Sri Lanka in a vital contest. Fresh doubts have been raised for Iyer's fitness as he misses back to back games ahead of 2023 ODI World Cup in India, next month.

"Shreyas Iyer is feeling better but is yet to fully recover from back spasm.” "He has been advised rest by the BCCI Medical Team and has not travelled with the team to the stadium today for India's Super 4 match against Sri Lanka," the BCCI said in a statement.

Post their empathic 228-run win over arch-rivals Pakistan, the Men in Blue jumped to the top spot in Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 stage points table.

The Indian team management named wicketkeeper batter KL Rahul as the last-minute replacement of Iyer in the playing eleven. Iyer featured in India's first Asia Cup 2023 fixture against Pakistan on September 2 in Pallekele cricket stadium, Kandy.

If India beats Sri Lanka today, they will secure their berth in the Asia Cup 2023 Final.
