Team India may have dominated the 3-match Test series against South Africa but the entire tourney failed to attract enough crowds at the venues. As the low attendance has raised concern over the health of Test cricket, Indian captain Virat Kohli has come up with a suggestion to deal with the situation.
After thrashing the Proteas by an innings and 202 runs, Kohli attended the post-match presser where he said, “In my opinion, we should have 5 strong Test centres. In Test cricket, teams coming into India should know that they are going to play at these 5 centres.”
“These are the pitches and crowds to expect. It can't be sporadic and spread over so many places,” he added.
Speaking about the match, Kohli mentioned the importance of being multi-dimensional and ready for all challenges at all times.
“You guys have seen how we’re playing. Making things happen on pitches that don’t seem to offer too much is something we’re very proud of. Even when we travelled away from home, we wanted to compete. Getting into the right kind of mindset is something these guys have worked really hard to get into,” Kohli said at the post-match presentation.
The Indian bowlers dominated throughout the series and their efforts were well-highlighted by the captain.
“Spin was always our strength; batting was never a problem for us. Ishant was the only experienced bowler for us. We said we can play an extra bowler, and as batsmen we said we’ll get the job done. We’ve got runs in every Test match; our catching has been good too. As I said, even without much experience, we travelled very well. We believe we can win anywhere. As long as we keep working with honest intent, those things will follow,” Kohli further added.
