Rohit Sharma's fourth Test ton, Mayank Agarwal's breezy half-century meant India were in cruise control mode at tea on the opening Day of 1st Test at the ACA-VDA Stadium in Visakhapatnam. India had posted 202 without losing a wicket before bad weather forced an early tea and washed out the entire third session.

At stumps, Rohit Sharma was unbeaten on 115 and Mayank Agarwal was playing on 84.

It had turned dark in the stadium with rain coming down heavily at the venue. The post-tea session got washed out as the drizzling left the entire ground under covers.

The highlight of the Indian dominated post-lunch session was Rohit Sharma's maiden ton as a Test opener.  The Indian opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal put on a double century opening wicket partnership to help the hosts lay a strong foundation for the strong middle order to follow. The century partnership was the first by an Indian opening pair in 24 Test innings.

The Indian openers took their time to settle down against the new ball pair of Kagiso Rabada and Vernon Philander. Once they had their eye on, they piled on the agony for the Proteas bowling attack by flaying them to all corners of the park.

South African Skipper Faf Du Plessis brought in his spinners with the hope of making the initial breakthrough but they did not have any impact on the Indian pair, which blossomed with each passing delivery.

Earlier in the day, Indian skipper Virat Kohli had won the toss and elected to bat on a batting-friendly strip at the ACA-VDA Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
