India vs England 1st T20: Virat Kohli cleared the air about Ashwin’s return to the limited overs team. It’s not going to happen any time soon as the 21-year old Washington Sundar is the preferable spin-bowling candidate in the limited overs’ format. “Washington has been doing really well for us. You cannot have two players of the same discipline playing at one spot,” Kohli said in a press conference ahead of the 1st India vs England T20I.

The statement comes after Ashwin had a decent IPL in 2020. He picked up 13 wickets with an economy of 7.66 per over. But Sundar also has an impressive record in T20Is, he has picked up 21 wickets in 26 matches with an economy of 6.97 runs. Kohli uses him in the middle overs to restrict the run-flow.

“Unless Washy has a drastically horrible season and things go south for him…the question has to be asked by some kind of logic as well. You suggest where would you play Ash, when somebody like Washy already does that job for the team,” Kohli said while explaining why Ashwin was not able to make it to the limited overs’ squad.

“It’s easy to ask a question but you should have a logical explanation of that as well,” he continued after being slightly annoyed at the question.
