IND vs BAN HIGHLIGHTS: Virat Kohli's Ton Lights Up Pune As India Beat Bangladesh For Fourth Win In A Row In World Cup 2023
India vs Bangladesh, Cricket World Cup 2023 HIGHLIGHTS: Virat Kohli slammed a hundred as India beat Bangladesh by 7 wickets. Shubman Gill also scored a half-century.
Another great day on the field for Team India as they register their fourth win on the trot. They have eight points from four matches but are second on the table, tied on points with New Zealand, their next opponent in the league stage who have a better net run rate than them at this moment. India ticked plenty of boxes but Hardik Pandya's injury would be a major area of concern which could force them to make some changes, given that the New Zealand game is not too far away on Sunday (October 22). For now, it's thank you and good night from all of us at ABP LIVE. We will be back with our coverage of other World Cup 2023 fixtures.
So that's that from the action on the field. Bangladesh had a good start but couldn't convert it to a big total despite being in a good position. The Indian bowlers once again found a way to come back. Ravindra Jadeja (2/38) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/40) were the stand out. In response, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill helped India off to a flier with Rohit falling for 48 and Gill making 53 but then it was Kohli who finished off the chase with a terrific innings, finishing off the match with a six. He remained unbeaten on 103* off 97. KL Rahul 34* off 34 and Shreyas Iyer- 19 were the other contributors with the bat. For Bangladesh, other than their openers Tanzid Hasan (51) and Litton Das (66), Mahmudullah also scored 46. With the ball in hand, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Hasan Mahmud were the wicket-takers but that wasn't enough as India beat Bangladesh by 7 wickets to taste their fourth win in a row this World Cup to go to 8 points from 4 matches.
SIX from Kohli to get to the hundred and get India past their target. India win by 7 wickets. Fourth win in a row this World Cup for India. They remain undefeated in this tournament.
He is into his 90s. Rahul has refused the single, knowing if Kohli gets all the runs, he will have another hundred to his name. Kohli goes four, six and a single off the final ball off that over. India need 8 to win, Kohli needs 8 for a hundred. IND- 249/3 after 40 overs.
END OF OVER 39. IND- 238/3. IND need 19, Kohli needs 19 for a hundred.
So India closing In On their Fourth Win of the tournament. They are unbeatean so far and the only other team that is unbeatean is New Zealand who they will face in their next match on October 22 (Sunday) in Dharamsala.
Six singles off the 38th over. IND- 229/3. Virat Kohli- 73* off 77, KL Rahul- 33* off 33.
Rahul wanting an early finish now. Probably the net run rate (NRR) on his mind. But both short balls from Shoriful Islam dispatched for a six and a four off successive balls. India get 14 runs off the over. IND- 223/3. They need 34 from 78 balls.
3-run over from Mehidy Hasan Miraz but no wickets which is what Bangladesh would want , otherwise it's an easy win for India from here on. After 36 overs, IND- 209/3.
IND-206/3 after 35 overs. 5 runs coming off that over with the help of a KL Rahul boundary.
Time for Shoriful Islam to come into the attack post the drinks interval.
34 Overs done. IND- 201/3. Virat Kohli- 65* off 68, KL Rahul- 13 *off 18. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Hasan Mahmud the only two wicket-takers for Bangladesh so far.
200 comes up for India. They need 56 runs from 98 balls.
Mahmudullah was introduced into the attack. Indian batters scored six singles off him. IND- 198/3 after 33 overs.
IND- 192/3 after 32 overs.
Another quick over delivered by Nasum which goes for 4 runs. India need 69 runs from 19 overs. They are 188/3.
6 Runs and a wicket from the 30th over. IND- 184/3.
After that wicket, it is KL Rahul who has joined Virat Kohli in the middle.
A bit against the run of play this but Iyer trying to go for the big shot departs. He is caught in the deep on the deep off the bowling of Mehidy Hasan Miraz. IND- 178/3 after 29.1 Overs.
Lovely Kohli Drive For Four To Finish Over Number 29. Glorious to watch. Superb timing. IND- 178/2 after 29 overs. They need 79 runs from 21 overs.
Half Century for Virat Kohli. Reaches there off 48 balls. Didn't have to soak in much of a pressure really after the solid foundation and he could do what he does best- accumulate runs in the middle with those ones and twos with the occasional boundary. IND- 171/2 after 27 overs.
IND- 164/2 after 26 overs. The Hosts need 93 runs from 24 overs to go top of the table.
A boundary and three singles from the 25th over. Hasan Mahmud was the bowler and It was Shreyas Iyer who scored the boundary on that occasion. Halfway stage through the innings, India have made more than half of their target. IND- 161/2. They need 96 from 25 overs.
No real pressure of the required rate that is what that opening stand has done for India barring that game against Australia. Same is the case here. After 24 overs, IND-154/2.
END OF OVER 23. IND- 150/2. Virat Kohli- 38* off 36, Shreyas Iyer- 9* off 9.
Just a single off Shoriful Islam's over. But required rate has dropped below 4 now so that is not a matter of concern at all. IND-143/2. They need 114 from 29 overs.
Shreyas Iyer walks in at number 4 and he has got a lucky boundary too where an outside edge beat the keeper to find the fence. IND- 142/2 after 20 overs. They need 115 from 30 overs.
Gill looking to clear the fence off Miraz having reached a fifty, finds the fielder. Good catch from Mahmudullah at deep mid wicket. IND- 132/2 after 19.2 Overs. Gill falls for 53 off 55.
Half-century for Gill. So another box ticked now. Remember Gill had missed the first two matches due to dengue and looked good during his brief stay at the wicket in the previous match. He has now completed a fifty.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz into the attack post drinks for Bangladesh and he begins with a three-run over. IND- 125/1 after 18 overs.
IND- 122/1 after 17 overs. Shubman Gill- 47*, Virat Kohli- 25*. Rohit the man dismissed for 48 off the bowling of Hasan Mahmud.
India in a comfortable position in this run chase. They can do without the boundaries. They goyt 7 runs off the 17th over without any boundary. IND- 122/1 after 17 overs.
END OF OVER 16. IND- 115/1. Mustafizur finishes his fourth, none for 25 so far.
IND- 111/1 after 15 overs. 5 off the 15th over.
Meanwhile, Mustafizur has delivered a 3-run over. IND-106/1 after 14 overs.
What an over for India despite the wicket. Helped by the no-balls alright but Kohli has gone 2,4,6 and 1 off his first four balls. 23 runs off that over. IND- 103/1 after 13 overs.
Hasan Mahmud gets the wicket of Rohit off a short ball. He got a six off him alright but tried to clear the fence yet again but this time it was caught in the deep. He departs for 48 off 40 after helping India to another quickfire start. IND- 88/1 after 12.4 Overs.
Three boundaries in that Mustafizur over from Gill. He has matches Rohit on strike rate. IND- 80/0 after 12 overs.
Mustafizur Rahman returns for a second spell.
India- 68/0 after 11 overs. Rohit with a boundary from that pull shot in that over. Rohit Sharma- 41* off 37, Shubman Gill- 27* off 29 deliveries.
Gill has upped the ante, probablt realising that it is the final over of the powerplay. He has smashed Nasum for two straight sixes in that over. India get 13 off that. After 10 overs, IND- 63/0.
Fifty comes up for India. At the end of 9 overs, that's precisely what India's scoreboard reads for the loss of no wickets. Rohit- 37*, Gill- 13*.
Spinner slipping in a quick over. 5 off it. A boundary and a single from Rohit off the first and final ball off the over.
Despite a boundary which came off the edge of Gill's bat, India get 6 off that over. IND- 43/0 after 7 overs.
Hasan Mahmud, right-arm medium, comes into the attack.
A boundary and five dots in that Nasum over against Rohit. The first ball was pitched short and wide and punished by the Indian captain. But then it was five dot balls to follow. IND- 37/0 after 6 overs.
Boundary and a single from the bat of Rohit and that's all that came from the fifth over. IND- 33/0 after 5 overs.
So ploy to bring a spinner on has worked in that over, at least it kept things quiet. Just two singles off that over. IND- 28/0 after 4 overs.
Left-arm spin against the two right-haded openers brought in early. Nasum Ahmed to bowl his first.
A bit shorter on the side was Shoriful, overcompensating for fuller length that was driven by Rohit but this has been pulled rows back into the crowd on the leg side for a six. IND- 26/0 after 3 overs.
So after 2 overs, IND- 14/0. 8 coming off the first, 6 off the second.
Mustafizur Rahman from the other end for Bangladesh. But it has been a flurry of boundaries to begin India's run chase. Two from the bat of Rohit in the first over, one from Gill to start the second over.
The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma started the innings with a bang. A booming cover drive came out of his willow against Shoriful Islam in the very first over. What a way to get a boundary. Rohit did the same again, and got another boundary.
So Bangladesh end their innings at 256/8. Good comeback once again by India after a record-breaking opening stand by Bangladesh openers Litton Das (66) and Tanzid Hasan (51). The duo added 93 for the opening wicket but after that India picked 4 for 44 to make a comeback ultimately restricting Bangladesh to 256 despite Mahmudullah's 46 off 36 and Mushfiqur Rahim's 38 off 46. Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/38 and 2/41 respectively. Mohammed Siraj also scalped 2/60. Kuldeep Yadav (1/47) and Shardul Thakur (1/59 off 9) were the other wicket takers. Hardik Pandya injured himself midway through his first over which had to be completed by Virat Kohli and did not feature in the rest of the innings. There is still no clarity on whether he will be able to bat in India's 257 run-chase but from what it looked like, it seems unlikely with the all-rounder having already been taken for scans.
SIX over the covers to end the innings and Bangladesh manage 256/8. Shoriful Islam the batter who nailed that shot off Bumrah but India would be overall pleased with that performance on what is a belter of a surface.
Boom Boom Bumrah!! What a peach of a delivery from Bumrah to get rid of Mahmudullah. It hit the bull's eye. Perfect yorker and the batter departs for 46 off 36 balls.
BAN- 248/7 after 49 overs. Bumrah to bowl the final over.
What a shot! That is what Mahmudullah is capable of. In his arc and out of the park for a maximum over deep midwicket. 8 off the first three balls. Three more balls remaining in the over.
As expected, Siraj bowling the 49th over. Good thing for Bangladesh is that Mahmudullah is on strike.
Despite a boundary, India concede just 5. Mahmudullah (37* off 30) somehow needs to find a way to keep more of the strike. BAN- 238/7 after 48 overs. 12 legal deliveries remaining in this innings.
BAN- 233/7 after 47 overs. 3 overs to go. Bumrah will bowl 48th and 50th, Siraj, the 49th. Can Bangladesh cross 250?
Siraj after being taken for two boundaries, gets a wicket. Just a heave from Nasum but manages an edge to the keeper. BAN-233/7 after 46.5 Overs.
Should be Siraj and Bumrah to finish off from here for Team India. Siraj bowling his ninth and the 47th over of the innings.
Mahmudullah targets Shardul and rightly so. Bangladesh get 15 runs off that over. A four and a six from the Bangladesh finisher. He is playing a good hand in this innings. BAN- 225/6 after 46 overs.
Shardul Thakur into the attack. This could be his last over in the innings, given India need just one more him from him after Hardik having to walk off the field.
End of another tidy over from Bumrah. After 45 overs, BAN- 210/6.
So 44 overs have been bowled, BAN- 205/6. Kuldeep finishes with 1 for 47 off his 10 overs.
Kuldeep Yadav will finish off his spell now. 9 overs, 1 for 43.
Nasum Ahmed the new man in now for Bangladesh. After 43 overs, BAN- 201/6.
WICKET! Another superb catch from Team India on the field. First it was KL Rahul behind the stumps, now it is Ravindra Jadeja at point with a beauty of a catch off the bowling of Bumrah to remove Mushfiqur Rahim. BAN- 201/6 after 42.3 Overs.
Jadeja completes his quota of 10 overs. He finishes with 2 for 38. BAN- 199/5 after 42 overs.
Good over for Bangladesh. They have got nine runs from it,courtesy of that six. BAN- 198/5 after 41 overs.
Lovely hit from Mahmudullah. Down the ground and out of the park on the on side.
That's the end of the second powerplay. BAN- 189/5 after 40 overs.
Jadeja has been brought on to bowl the final over of the second powerplay. After this, Rohit Sharma will have the option of having five fielders guarding the fence.
A boundary from the bat of Mahmudullah to end the over. Superb drive a much-needed stroke for Bangladesh. After 39 overs, BAN- 186/5.
Mohammed Siraj bowling his eighth over from the other end.
Mahmudullah has joined Mushfiqur. 3 singles and a wicket from that Thakur over. BAN-181/5 after 38 overs.
Shardul picks up a a wicket. Hridoy, batting on 16, tried to take on probably India's weakest link in the attack but departs. Gill takes an easy catch inside the circle. Hridoy never looked settled and departs after scoring 16 off 35 balls without a boundary.
Two overs off that fifth bowler remaining and so it is Shardul Thakur who returns.
Bangladesh get 8 runs in that over without a boundary. After 37 overs, BAN- 178/4.
Mohammed Siraj will have a spell now. Bangladesh looking to get some momentum into the innings after their run rate slumped below 5.
5 runs off that Bumrah over then with the help of a boundary and a single from Mushfiqur. BAN- 170/4 after 36 overs.
Bumrah to continue. Probably his last over of this spell or will he bowl another?
Just a single off Kuldeep's eighth over. BAN-165/4 after 35 overs. Towhid Hridoy- 12* off 28, Mushfiqur Rahim- 21* off 27.
Bumrah on target in that over. But Bangladesh have not lost a wicket. They get 3 runs off it. BAN- 164/4 after 34 overs. Mushfiqur Rahim-
20* off 23, Towhid Hridoy- 12* off 26.
As was being sensed, here is Bumrah for a second spell. So just two overs at a stretch for the spinners.
Spin at both ends for India at the moment. Kuldeep concedes 5 runs. After 33 overs, BAN- 161/4.
7 runs coming off that Jadeja over. A six and a single from the bat of Mushfiqur. BAN-156/4 after 32 overs.
BAN-149/4 after 31 overs. 6 runs including two overthrows. First off a direct hit from Jadeja then off Rahul who threw it to the bowlers end.
Still Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja bowling well in tandem. Sensing Bumrah could have a short burst.
BAN- 143/4 after 30 overs. 3 runs from that quick Jadeja over.
END OF OVER 29. BAN- 140/4 after 29 overs.
WICKET! Another wicket for India and much like the game against Pakistan, despite a solid platform set by the opposition, the Indian bowlers have found a way to come back into this match. This time it's the set Litton Das who tried to take the attack to the opposition but is instead taken at long off. BAN- 137/4 after 27.4 Overs.
Shardul Thakur Into The Attack for a second spell. Mix of spin and pace for India.
Despite India being under pressure, they have found a way to come back into this match. BAN- 133/3 after 26 overs. Just 2 runs from that Jadeja over. BAN- 133/3.
Towhid Hridoy the new batter in for Bangladesh.
BAN- 131/3 after 25 overs.
Siraj strikes but what a catch from KL Rahul to produce that wicket. Mehidy Hasan Miraz the batter dismissed. KL Rahul with a stunning catch, one-handed. BAN- 129/3 after 24.1 Overs.
Just when India seemingly had dried up the runs, Jadeja has gone for two boundaries. Litton Das is taking the attack to him, one boundary over the bowler's head, the other swept away on the on side. Bangladesh get 11 runs from the over. BAN-129/2 after 24 overs.
End Of Over 23. BAN: 118/2
Rohit hands the ball to Siraj for a second spell.
So not a good news at all as Hardik Pandya will not feature in the remaining of this innings. The same has been confirmed by the Indian camp.
Boundaries have dried up since the first wicket. Meanwhile, Jaddu has conceded just a single off his third over. BAN-114/2 after 22 overs.
Half-Century comes up for Litton Das. He gets there off 62 deliveries. END OF OVER 21. BAN-113/2.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz replaced Shanto who scored 8 off 17 after being guilty of going on the backfoot to Jadeja.
Jadeja strikes. Bangladesh lose their second. Shanto departs out LBW and BAN-110/2 after 20 overs.
BAN-107/1 after 19 overs. Kuldeep has slipped in a four-run over.
This looks like a belter of a surface. Bangladesh should be aiming at least a 300, given the start that they have got.
100 has come up for Bangladesh, with 5 runs coming off the 18th over.
Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja into the attack for the first time this match.
Two singles from the 17th over which was bowled by India's only successful bowler so far. BAN- 98/1 after 17 overs. Najmul Hossain Shanto- 3* off 11, Litton Das- 41* off 48.
Meanwhile, a tidy over from Shardul Thakur. He has conceded just 2 from his fourth over. END OF OVER 16. BAN- 96/1.
So end of a successful over from Kuldeep. He is so crucial to this team's composition and he has proven his utility once again removing Tanzid Hasan for 51 off 43 balls. Najmul Hossain Shanto, the stand in captain of Bangladesh, comes it at 3. BAN- 94/1 after 15 overs.
There's the breakthrough! And it is Kuldeep Yadav who strikes for India! A ball which was quicker through the air and Tanzidm who was looking so good, tried to sweep it and missed. The ball crashed on to his pads and the umpire raised his finger straightaway. BAN- 93/1 after 14.4 overs.
India probably under pressure for the first time this World Cup. The Bangladesh openers have put on 90 already and to add to their worries Hardik Pandya has been sidelined with an injury. There is no update yet but from what it looked like he might not return this innings. Their second all-rounder Thakur hasn't been at his best either and his 3 overs have gone for 28 without a wicket.
Fifty comes up for Tanzid Hasan. Gets to the landmark off 41 balls. What a fine innings this from the left-hander. BAN- 90/0 after 14 overs.
India still looking for their first wicket as Kuldeep Yadav concedes 10 runs off his second over. BAN- 82/0 after 13 overs.
So Shardul-Kuldeep bowling in tandem at the moment. Bangladesh, meanwhile, have put on their highest opening stand in World Cup history.
He has come back with a better over has Shardul. Still four runs off it. BAN- 72/0 after 12 overs.
Almost a wicket there as a fully blooded stroke from Tanzid Hasan went straight at the bowler towards his right. Thakur did get a hand to it but couldn't held on to it. No damage done. Tanzid Hasan survives.
Thakur gets a second over after going for 16 in his first. Bangladesh openers have been superb in this game so far.
Kuldeep Yadav into the attack then ahead of Ravindra Jadeja as India look for a breakthrough.
End Of Powerplay. What a start this for Bangladesh. After 10 overs, BAN- 63/0. Tanzid Hasan- 40* (30), Litton Das- 21* off 30. Not looking good for India at the moment.
It's Shardul Thakur who has come in to bowl the next over but he is being taken to the cleaners. He has gone for 0,6,4,6,0 off his first five balls. Tanzid Hasan the batter who has played some gorgeous strokes in this innings so far.
Three good balls to end that over from Kohli. Not the most ideal circumtances under which he got the ball but boy did he deliver three decent deliveries. After the end of 9 overs, BAN- 47/0.
While Hardik tried to complete his over, unfortunately it seems serious and he is having to get off the field. The crowd goes berserk as Virat Kohli steps in to complete his over. He has conceded 0,4,4 off his first three balls.
Not the most ideal news for Team India, all-rounder Hardik Pandya seems to have twisted his ankle midway through his first over in the match. The physios are out in the middle and are treating him. If this is serious, then could be a massive blow to the Men in Blue.
The story so far: Well a Shakib Al Hasan-less Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. Their openers respected the conditions early on and were cautious to begin with their score 10/0 after 5 overs. However, they have now started to get a bit of a move on with a flurry of boundaries first off Mohammed Siraj and then Hardik Pandya who has come in first change and is bowling the ninth over.
Thank you so much, Ashish Satyam. For the next phase of this match, it will be me, Saurabh Ganguly, trying to bring in every major update from the IND vs BAN World Cup 2023 match at the MCA Stadium in Pune.
Tanzid Hasan hammered a massive six against Bumrah. That's a good shot!!
Litton Das has smashed a terrific boundary against Siraj. He found a bit of room and hit it over the point fielder for a boundary.
Bumrah is bowling at some serious pace. The Bangladesh openers are clueless as to how to face him.
Siraj conceded a boundary against Tanzid Hasan. It was a full delivery and Tanzid played an uppish cover drive and got the result.
Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das start batting. Bumrah bowls the first over.
Players of both teams have arrived on the field for their respective national anthems.
Rohit Sharma: I would have bowled first. It's working at this point of time, don't see any reason to change it. That's important in this WC, keeping everybody in good space. The boys are in good shape, good mental space as well and enjoying the cricket. So far so good, we want to continue this momentum, Same team.
Najmul Hossain Shanto: Proud moment for me and my family. We'd like to bat today. Looks a fresh wicket. If we put some good score, it'll be good for the team. He (Shakib) is struggling a bit, Nasum is coming in for him. We have some great memories against India, hopefully we continue our form. I hope it'll be a great match. We love to see the crowd, hopefully they'll support both teams. Hasan comes in for Taskin.

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first.
"It's a good pitch, has a history of lot of runs. It's a pitch where the seamers wouldn't mind bowling first up or maybe under lights as well. I don't see a turner. Definition of true pitch - you can bat really well, if you are a quality fast bowler, you get something out of it as well. It's a black soil pitch, there's grass covering which is not green. It'll hold the pitch nicely. High-scoring pitch for sure. I'll use the bouncer very regularly on this pitch. You can plays shots on the up", Sanjay Manjrekar and Irfan Pathan said.
The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has collected 738 runs in 16 ODIs against Bangladesh at an outstanding average of 56.76 including 3 centuries.
