There is an old saying in the game of cricket – ‘catches win matches’. History has been evident how the legends of the game have paid the price for dropping catches. Something similar was witnessed on Sunday when India lost their first-ever T20I match to Bangladesh in Delhi.

India amassed a 148-run total on a tricky Kotla track under extremely poor weather. Washington Sundar and Krunal Pandya provided a late blitz to put up a challenging score. However, the game turned completely upside down after the latter dropped a crucial catch during an important stage of the match.

Bangladesh wicketkeeper Rahim pulled a delivery from Yuzvendra Chahal towards the mid-wicket region where Pandya was fielding. But he failed to get hold of the ball and the ball went to the boundary ropes. It became the turning point of the match as Rahim was then batting on 38 while his side needed 33 runs off 16 delivers.

The Bangla stumper made the most of the opportunity and went on to smash Khaleel Ahmed for 18 runs in the penultimate over to hand Bangladesh a historic victory.

The fans on Twitter were utterly disappointed after India’s loss and trolled the elder Pandya for giving away the match to the visitors. Here are some of the reactions:
