After registering a 31-run victory in the first Test against Australia, the Indian team now have a 1-0 lead in the series. This victory for India is very special because the team has won a Test match after 10 years on Australian soil.

Not only that, with this historical win, Indian skipper Virat Kohli became the first Indian captain to win Test matches in Australia, England and South Africa.

Rahul Dravid and MS Dhoni-led Indian cricket teams were able to attain Test victories in England and South Africa but never in Australia.

This record for Kohli is also special because he was able to defeat these three Test playing nations in the same year on their respective home soil.

With this win, India is now the second team in Asia to win the first match of a Test series against Australia. Earlier, Pakistan did this in 1978-79. The second match of the four-match Test series will start on December 14 in Perth.

Finally, India ended the 10-year drought on the Australian soil by registering a terrific 31–run win in the first Test at the Adelaide Oval. While chasing a humongous target of 323 runs, the hosts got bowled out on 291, handing over a 1-0 lead to the visitors.
