'Unbeaten' India maintained their winning momentum in ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 with a thumping 50-run win over Bangladesh in the Super 8 match on Saturday, June 22, in Antigua.

After the match, Suryakumar Yadav, renowned as one of the finest T20I batters, was awarded the best fielder medal. The Indian T20 batting star received the accolade from cricket legend Sir Vivian Richards in the Indian dressing room, making the moment even more special.

Suryakumar Yadav earned best fielder medal for his outstanding diving catch that resulted in dismissal of Bangladesh opener Liton Das.

Sir Vivian Richards expressed his happiness at seeing Rishabh Pant return to the cricketing field.

"Oh, first of all, let me say Well done, guys. Well done today. Going all the way. Let’s go. Well done. What can I say to a team that is already so powerful? Man, you know, you have a good thing going here. I can only say this, if the guys in maroon don’t get it done, I’ll be backing you. Is that OK? That sounds reasonable enough as a Caribbean person, but really good to see what you guys have here," Richards said.

India on verge of qualifying for T20 World Cup semifinal

If India secures a victory over Australia on Monday (June 24) and Afghanistan triumphs over Bangladesh on Tuesday (June 25), India will advance to 6 points, securing a spot in the semifinals. Afghanistan, with 4 points, will also qualify for the semifinals. Australia will be left with only 2 points, resulting in their elimination from the tournament.

What if India loses to Australia?

India remains well-positioned to qualify for the semifinals even if they lose to Australia, thanks to their superior net run rate compared to Australia and Afghanistan. However, India's chances of reaching the semifinals could be jeopardized if Australia secures a win by a big margin.

If Australia manages to defeat India, even by a narrow margin such as 1 run, and Afghanistan defeats Bangladesh by a margin exceeding 36 runs, then Afghanistan could potentially surpass Australia in the standings based on net run rate.

This scenario would allow Afghanistanto advance to the semifinals as the second qualifying team from Group 1, knocking Australia out of the tournament despite their win over India.
