The Men in Blue did it again as they outplayed Australia by 99 runs in the second ODI that was played at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. On the back of this win, they also clinched the three-game series 2-0. India batted first and Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer hammered brilliant centuries, while captain KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav came with a late blitz with both hitting their respective half-centuries, powering India to a massive total of 399/5 against Australia in the second ODI at Holkar Stadium on Sunday.

Gill carried his good form and went on to score 104 off 97 balls, his fifth ODI century this year, laced with six fours and four sixes. Iyer on the other hand also showed his class after he made 105 off 90 balls, with the help of 11 fours and three sixes. After losing Gaikwad early in the innings, the duo formed a 200-run partnership while Rahul and Surya carried the momentum, helping India post 399 runs. Rahul amassed a 38-ball 52 while India’s 360 batter scored an unbeaten 72.

In reply, Australia lost two quick wickets in the initial phase of the game in the form of Steve Smith and Short. In between the game, rain played spoilsport and as a result, the target got revised as Australia were given 317 runs to chase down in 33 overs.

Just after the game started again, Australian batters failed to find their momentum as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. It was David Warner who stood there in the middle for a while, scoring 53 runs. The Australian team collapsed like a bridge soon after Warner departed. But then Abbott decided to carry forward the fightback as he smashed 54 runs but then it was not enough to sail Australia’s boat.

For India, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were the stars with the ball as both went on to scalp three wickets each. Other wicket-takers were Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Shami who picked up two and a wicket respectively.
