The Australians took the field against India on the fourth day of the Adelaide Test wearing a black band over their arms. It was a tribute to former Aussie speedster cricketer Colin Guest, who took his last breathe on Saturday, at the age of 81.
The Cricket Australia took to their official Twitter handle to share this information. Their post read, “The Australian players are wearing black armbands today in memory of Colin Guest (Baggy Green No.222) who sadly passed away yesterday”.
Baggy Green number 222, Colin Guests played only one Test for the country, against England in Sydney in 1963. His numbers in the domestic circuit are quite impressive as he had scalped 115 wickets from 36 matches.
The Victoria-born pacer played most of his matches for his native state before moving to Western Australia in his final season in 1966-67. Later, he became the coach of Western Australia as well.
“Colin made a significant contribution to our domestic game, both as a player and a coach. His patience was rewarded after debuting for Australia in the Ashes in 1963," said Kevin Roberts, Cricket Australia CEO.
