While the hosts lost quick wickets on Day 2 of the India Vs Australia, 3rd Test, being played at DCG, India was not able to limit Steve Smith as he brought up his 27th Test century off 201 balls, the eighth against India, to keep the Australian innings going. Smith registered his first century of 2021 and moved on from 2020, a year where he didn't register a single Test ton. However, Smith was dismissed as Bumrah's magic spell worked taking the last wicket.

Ravindra Jadeja picked up his fourth wicket dismissing Nathan Lyon for a duck, shortly after Navdeep Saini picked up his second wicket as he sent back Mitchell Starc.

It was a good day for the Indian bowlers. After Australia resumed their innings post-lunch, Jasprit Bumrah cleaned up their captain Tim Paine with a cracker of delivery followed by Ravindra Jadeja yorking Pat Cummins.

Before the break, Bumrah had Cameron Green out LBW for his first wicket of the match. Earlier, Ravindra Jadeja picked up two wickets for India as he dismissed Marnus Labuschagne for 91 to break the century stand between him and Steve Smith and then Matthew Wade after the rain interval. Smith and Labuschagne had given Australia a solid start before the first rain break.

It was all raining in the first day of the Test match. But in the 55 overs of play that was possible, Australia got a very positive looking Steve Smith and an assured Labuschagne. India did dismiss David Warner early but debutant Will Pucovski rode his luck on his way to a maiden Test fifty as Indian wicket keeper Rishabh Pant dropped him not once but twice. After his departure, Australia’s best pair took over and took them to 166 for 2 at stumps.
