The 2019 ICC World Cup will commence from tomorrow in the United Kingdom with hosts England taking on South Africa in the opening encounter at the Oval cricket ground in London. The twelfth edition of the World Cup will witness ten of the strongest one day international teams locking horns with each other in a round robin and knockout format to vie for the most cherished piece of silverware in World Cricket.
After a span of nearly twenty years, the Cricket World Cup shall be competed among ten nations, a significant drop in the number of participating teams which earlier hovered between 12 to 16 in earlier editions of the tournament.
While England automatically qualified for the tournament owing to them hosting the multi-nation tournament, seven of the top ranked ODI sides in the ICC rankings as on September 30th, 2017 also made the cut for the multi-nation event. The remaining two spots were clinched by West Indies and Afghanistan who bagged the top two spots from the 2018 ICC World Cup qualifying tournament held in the Zimbabwe
