New Delhi: Just four days to go for the ICC Meeting which could decide the fate of T20 World Cup happening this year or not, several well placed sources from Australia said Cricket Australia is not in a position to hold T20 World Cup this year. Former Australia captain Mark Taylor also has told the Nine Network in Australia on Sunday that he feels there is hardly any chance of T20 World Cup happening this year.

If T20 World Cup gets postponed a window for IPL to open - which looks like a very very bright chance now. T20 World Cup is slated between October 18 and November 19.

Backgrounder
------------------------------
Why impossible task for Cricket Australia? Till September 13 there is a travel ban in Australia due to Covid-19 situation. Now if the World Cup has to be staged teams have to be there in Australia by the first week of October. Hosting 16 teams and approximately 30 members including players and support staffs of each team inside the bio bubble environment is very tough. Even if it's an empty stadium tournament the officials in a different capacity, journalists, commentators and few others will travel too. Handling 15 foreign teams in 7 venues and hosting 45 matches looks almost impossible for the Aussie authorities under current circumstances.

Who will win and who will lose?
------------------------------------------------------
If T20 World Cup doesn't happen this year primarily ICC will be at a loss as it is a tournament of International Cricket Council.

If IPL takes place in that free window BCCI will gain.

Sources said Cricket Australia as of now has decided that to play in IPL or not is solely a call of the individual cricketers ( Unless Australian Govt instructs otherwise ). Since most of the Aussie cricketers are getting a huge sum of money it is expected they will play the IPL.

Kevin Roberts, the CEO of Cricket Australia a couple of days back has said that he sees a very bright chance of Australia vs India series happening in Australia over the year-end and the start of 2021.

This will give Cricket Australia a huge share of the revenue from the telecast rights.

If the T-20 World Cup doesn't take place in Australia this year then when will it happen?

There are three chances - February 2021

England will tour India in Feb and if both these boards agree then only that is a chance ... Which looks less

October - November 2021 - India is slated to host T20 World Cup in 2021. And this can go to Australia only if BCCI agrees to swap it to 2022 and make Australia host it in 2021. ( This also looks like an unlikely option )

2022 -- Australia could host it in 2022 and this looks a more likely chance .

So, the ICC meeting on 28th May is very important. But as we discussed sources in Australia are saying that Cricket Australia hosting it in this October - November is almost next to nothing.
