COLOMBO: Sri Lanka test opener Kaushal Silva has been discharged from hospital and told he's fully healthy two days after he was struck on the head by a cricket ball.

Sri Lanka Cricket says on Tuesday that doctors confirmed Silva was mildly concussed by the hit in a practice match, but he was cleared to resume physical activity.

Silva was fielding at short leg when a powerful sweep by Dinesh Chandimal struck the back of his head at Pallekele on Sunday, in camp for the tour of England next month. He was airlifted to Colombo.

Silva turned his head, and the ball hit him below the back rim of the helmet into a padded attachment that was mandated after Phillip Hughes died after he was hit by a ball in Australia in 2014.
