West Indies’ top order batsman Shimron Hetmyer has secured a place in the team’s Test squad for Bangladesh series after successfully recovering from illness.
The left-handed batsman was left out for two Tests against Sri Lanka but was all set to play in the third Test before he was reported sick. His replacement, all-rounder Keemo Paul, has retained his place in the squad against Bangladesh as well.
The decision was taken by the selection committee to strengthen their upper order which struggled against their previous rivals, Sri Lanka. West Indies ended the series in a draw when they clearly had the opportunity to win in the final Test match.
This is a crucial two-match series for the hosts as it will give them the opportunity to advance in the ICC rankings. They are just behind the visitors at the 9th spot and if they win the series, they will surpass them. If, on the other hand, Bangladesh wins the series, they will come closer to overtaking the 7th spot holder Pakistan.
