New Delhi: In a surprise move, Mahendra Singh Dhoni decided to call it a day as the captain of India’s limited over format on Wednesday which left the entire cricketing fraternity in shock.
The 35-year-old will step down as the captain with immediate effect but will be available for selection for England series which begins on January 15 in Pune.
Dhoni is the only captain to win 3 ICC trophies which include World Cup in 2011, T20 World Cup in 2007 and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013.
While others are debating over his decision to step down, his wife Sakshi Dhoni took Twitter to react to her husband’s decision to step aside.
Sakshi wrote: “@msdhoni There are no mountains high enough to stop you from climbing.Proud of you !!”
Mahendra Singh Dhoni had already quit Test cricket in 2014 during India’s tour of Australia but the Jharkhand man aspires to continue playing in the limited format of the game under someone else’s leadership.
