Sachin Tendulkar's Heartfelt Tribute To Ramakant Achrekar On Guru Purnima Is Pure Gold

Sachin Tendulkar shared a picture featuring himself and all the players who learned cricketing skills under Ramakant Achrekar's supervision. Several of them went on to play for the national team.

Indian batting icon Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter to post a heartfelt tweet for his childhood coach Ramakant Achrekar on the occasion of Guru Purnima. The Master Blaster shared a picture featuring himself, Ramnath Parkar, Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Lalchand Rajput, Chandrakant Pandit, Praveen Amre, Vinod Kambli, Paras Mahambre, Ajit Agarkar, Sameer Dighe, Sanjay Bangar and Ramesh Pawar -- all the players who learned cricketing skills under coach Ramankant Achrekar's supervision at Shivaji Park in Dadar, Mumbai. Several of them went on to play for the national team.

"It’s the teacher that makes the difference, not the classroom – Michael Morpurgo. We were all part of Achrekar Sir’s great school of cricket and I feel most fortunate that I could learn the game from a selfless person like him. Happy Guru Purnima!" Sachin tweeted.

Achrekar competed in just one first-call match as a player. However, he was instrumental in teaching Sachin technique, discipline and respect for the sport. Sachin went on to become the greatest batter in the history of cricket. The 2011 World Cup winning star is the first and youngest sportsperson to be awarded India's highest civilian honour, Bharat Ratna award.

Coach Achrekar used train Sachin before he went to school in the morning and in the evening, after school.

Sachin, who still holds the unbeaten record for scoring 100 hundreds in international cricket, announced retirement from all forms of the game on 23rd December 2012. On 16th November 2013, in his last Test match in Mumbai, Sachin retired from Test cricket after playing an innings of 74 runs.
