India’s talented opening batsman Shubman Gill batted brilliantly in the fourth Test against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He went on to get his second Test century against the Kangaroos. Just after Gill’s heroics in the 4th Test, former India cricketer Saurav Ganguly lauded his effort. "It's a good wicket to bat. They got some tough wickets in the last three matches. This is a proper wicket, so they batted well. Shubhman Gill is very impressive. He is in tremendous form," Ganguly told India Today.

"Both are different. We need to keep Test cricket in a proper way that's it, it is important," the ex-BCCI president added.

Shubman Gill got a chance in place of KL Rahul who has been going through a lean patch and repaid selectors' faith by scoring a hundred. Gill however could not score big in the third Test as he scored 21 and 5 in both innings but then he made a terrific comeback in the fourth Test and powered India to 289/3 on day 3.

Talking in detail about the ongoing 4th Test, Sourav Ganguly also praised veteran all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin who bagged six wickets in the 1st innings against Australia. These wickets were crucial as they came on the pitch where there was no help for the spinners.

"He is a class (bowler). On a flat wicket he (Ashwin) did really well," the former Bengal-based cricketer said.

Ashwin claimed his 32nd five-wicket haul in his Test career. He also scripted history by breaking Anil Kumble’s record for the most five-wicket-hauls (25) by an Indian bowler at home.  The 36-year-old has scalped 473 wickets in 92 Test matches he played.
