According to former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir, young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal should be in Indian tea for the T20 World Cup 2024. Yashasvi Jaiswal is currently playing the ongoing Test series against West Indies where he scored a century in his debut game. The Mumbai-based batter had a great last IPL and also played well in the domestic circuit.
Coming from a humble family in Uttar Pradesh and then shifting his base to the city of dreams, Mumbai, Jaiswal’s journey has been very inspiring. Local coach Jwala Singh was the first person who spotted his talent and helped him towards a successful career path.
Yashasvi scored 625 runs in 14 games with the help of a century and five fifties in the last IPL. He also became the youngest player to make a double hundred in the Vijay Hazare Trophy game.
"In India, the issue is that we take the 2 months of IPL so seriously that whoever does well we add him to the Indian team. Jaiswal has scored a double hundred in domestic cricket both in First Class and One-Day matches," Gambhir said on News18.
While playing the first Test at Dominica against West Indies, Jaiswal smashed a century and was also involved in a 229-run opening-wicket stand with Rohit in the first Test. In the ongoing second Test as well, Jaiswal along with skipper Rohit Sharma provided a great start to team India and built a 139-run partnership. Unfortunately, Jaiswal missed out on another century in the second Test as he departed scoring 74-ball 57 after his 171-run knock in the first Test.
"If I am around players who are really experienced and when they are talking, there is some thought behind it and I really like to hear that and make sure what is suiting my game I keep trying to develop that in my way.
"Of course, I am disappointed. But it happens in cricket. I just need to keep learning and keep thinking how can I make sure that when I come (in) next, then what I can do in that situation”.
