Remember the dream spell from legendary spinner Anil Kumble in the Delhi Test against Pakistan in 1999? The Jumbo of Indian cricket single-handedly defeated Pakistan by taking all the 10 wickets in the second innings.
After 19 years of that historic incident, an Indian uncapped cricketer has done the same thing on English soil.
While representing Stokesley Cricket Club, Vidarbha's left-arm pacer Shrikant Wagh took all the 10 Middlesbrough wickets on Saturday during a league match of North Yorkshire & South Durham (NYSD) Cricket League. Moreover, in his dream spell, Wagh removed six of the Middlesbrough batsmen on a duck while the entire team bundled up for just 97 runs. His extraordinary spell led Stokesley Club to register a record win of 135 runs over one of the top NYSD sides.
After the completion of the game, the scorecard of the match was shared on the official Twitter handle of NSYD cricket.
Before bowling a magnificent spell, Wagh also contributed with the bat and scored 41 runs for his team.
Wagh has also tried his luck in the 4th season of the Indian Premier League. Representing the Pune Warriror Indian franchise, he played 8 matches and picked up 5 wickets.
The left-arm pacer had once formed a phenomenal pairing with Umesh Yadav almost 7 years back. He had been Vidarbha’s key pacer since last five-six years. However, untimely injuries led him out of the side, opening doors for the youngsters like Rajneesh Gurbani, and Lalit Yadav.
Wagh’s and Vidarbha’s former coach, Sulakshan Kulkarni stated that the left-armer has turned quite mature. He said, “He has always been a quality bowler. This performance shows he still has that hunger and firepower. After First class cricket for 10 years, bowlers become smarter and wiser with experience. They know how to take maximum.”
