As far as sheer numbers are concerned, Virat Kohli is probably one of the most successful captains in Indian Test cricket history. Not only did Kohli inspire India to do well overseas but he them from the front. In fact, it was under Kohli that India got a superb crop of fast bowlers who went on to help India dominate world cricket. However, former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar has now said that he disagrees with a big call that Kohli took in his Test career.
Bangar feels that Kohli should have continued as the Test captain. Notably, Virat Kohli had stepped down as the Test series against South Africa in 2022. With Kohli at the helm of affairs, India have gone on to win 40 Tests, the most under an Indian captain.

"I personally feel that he should have continued for longer as a Test captain because he probably captained India in 65 Test matches, and one of the things I feel is that he could have probably continued as a Test captain for a longer period", Bangar said on the Rao podcast.
"Virat was driven with the fact that India had to improve their performances overseas. Because in India we knew that whether anybody is there or not, with all due respect to the opposition, if you come to India, India is winning 75 per cent of the time. You'll really have to play poorly to lose in India," he added.

Virat Kohli Surpassed MS Dhoni's Record In 2019
Prior to Kohli, it was Dhoni who had led India to most number of wins in Test cricket. However, in 2019, Kohli went past MS Dhoni's tally of wins as India Test captain which stood at 27. Kohli- the batter- also came to his own while he was captain as number suggest. India's batting mainstay accumulated 5,864 runs at an average of 54.80 as a captain in Test matches.
