During the preparations for the upcoming World Cup 2023, a fire broke out in the dressing room of Eden Gardens in Kolkata. It was at late night when a fire broke out in the steam room of Eden's single-story dressing room. Workers immediately alerted the security guards when they saw smoke coming out of the room. However, the fire was doused after half an hour of slogging but the steam room was partially burnt.

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) secretary Debabrata Das reached the spot to check the situation and assured that the incident will be investigated. The ICC representatives are satisfied to see the renovation work. To add to it, another inspection is expected to take place next month due to the recent setback at Eden Gardens.

Notably, the iconic Eden Gardens will host the five games including the high-voltage semi-final 2, scheduled to be played on Thursday, November 16. Apart from the knockout match, the game between England and Pakistan and India and South Africa are the other games that will be taking place at the iconic venue. The Indian team will begin their World Cup campaign against the five-time winners Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, October 8. The highly anticipated game between India and Pakistan has been rescheduled as per the ICC's latest update. The high-octane clash will now be taking place on Sunday, November 19, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
